(Rockdale)--The Rockdale City Council learned about issuance of a tax note for funding street reconstruction and park improvements during the Council meeting Monday. The City would be able to draw about $1.15 million from that tax note. The City learned from workers from the Texas Municipal League assisting the city in some financial record work recently. TML workers told the City that the City's debt tax rate was changing, resulting in a drop of revenue from the interest & sinking rate, so maintaining the city's rates as they are would be a move toward stability. City Manager Tim Kelty said a debt rate that bounces up and down can cause problems in maintaining the Maintenance and Operations rate. The funds from the tax note will be directed to addressing city streets.

The DA's office said a jury sentenced 47 year old Barry Deshawn White to serve 43 years in prison. The conviction stemmed from an investigation via an anonymous tip in November 2024, reporting illegal narcotics sales from a home in Taylor. Evidence at the trial showed White conducting hand-to-hand transactions from his vehicle in front of a home. According to the press release, law enforcement searched White's vehicle and found bags containing 66 grams of ma*****na, 12 grams of co***ne, a digital scale and Ziplock bags. The DA's office said White had an extensive criminal record that included prior convictions for evading and resisting arrest, possession of controlled substance and assault. He was also previously arrested in 2008 for felony possession with intent to deliver co***ne.

(Cameron)--The Milam County Sheriff's Office is warning the public about someone calling individuals from a Sheriff's Office phone number "on behalf of Homeland Security." The "officer" calls to let the individual know that there is fraudulent activity on the individuals' account. The "officer" has a thick middle Eastern accent and cannot pronounce "Milam" correctly. The Milam County Sheriff's Office reminds the public that they have deputies, not officers, and they do not have a deputy named "David Trevino" and do not have any deputies with thick Middle Eastern accidents. The Sheriff's Office reminds the public, do not give out personal information to any unsolicited callers, even if the number is recognizable. The easiest thing to do is simply hang up.
