Alta Mae Spradley
Alta Mae Spradley passed away peacefully on January 3, 2025 at the age of 96. She was born in Jones County on April 20, 1928. She was known for her dedication to her family, and has left a legacy of strong family bonds that is sure to be carried on for generations to come.
She was a dedicated member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist church of Jasper County where she enjoyed women’s retreats, and singing specials. She will forever be remembered for her green thumb, sharing the fruits of her labor, and last but not least, her dumplings.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth “Lizzie” Hancock and Lon Hancock; her beloved husband of 62 years, Roy Austin Spradley; and siblings, Cleo Sumerlin, Buster Hancock, Betty Mosley, and Lottie Hinton.
Left to cherish her memories are her children, Elizabeth Ann Bynum (Harold) and Danny Roy Spradley (Glenda); her grandchildren, Edward Bynum (Stephanie), Sherri Robertson (Ken), Damon Spradley (Kayla), Matilda Patterson, Jamie Warren (Dylan), Clint Barnes, and Clyde Barnes; and 9 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren who lovingly called her
“Maw Sprat.”
Pallbearers are Edward Bynum, Ken Robertson, Damon Spradley, Ryan Bynum, Lane Spradley, Sawyer Spradley, Joel Brogan, and Mark Lofton.
A visitation will be held at Memory Chapel Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 from 11 am to 1 pm. A service will follow, and she will be laid to rest at Union Line Cemetery. Bro. Steve Clark will officiate.
