Man Killed in ATV Crash Near Perry-Crawford County Line

PERRY COUNTY, IND.—A 39-year-old man was killed in an apparent ATV accident early Sunday morning near the Perry County, according to Perry County Coroner Warren Taylor.

Taylor identified the deceased as Jeffrey Allen Davis Jr., 39.

According to Taylor, Davis was discovered at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Oak Grove Road by a local resident. He was found deceased in a pool of blood near the scene of the crash.

Preliminary evidence indicates the ATV accident may have been caused by a collision with a deer. Taylor said deer hair and a bone fragment believed to have come from a deer were recovered at the scene and did not belong to Davis.

“Based on the evidence found at the scene, I am confident this will be determined to be a deer-related accident,” Taylor said.

An autopsy has been completed, and toxicology testing has been submitted. However, Taylor stated he believes the findings will support the preliminary conclusion that the fatal crash resulted from an encounter with a deer.

The accident occurred in near Perry County’s northern border.

Taylor said both the Perry County and Crawford County law enforcement agencies assisted with the investigation. Emergency medical personnel were the first responders on scene after the incident was reported by a Crawford County resident.

The investigation remains ongoing pending the completion of toxicology results and any additional findings from authorities.
