Shortly after the successful debut of Disneyland’s three-car Monorail Mark I in 1959, plans were explored to increase passenger capacity. To visualize the idea, Bob Gurr created this detailed pencil rendering depicting a proposed four-car version of the original monorail train. The concept retained the distinctive small bubble canopy and pointed rear tail fin that characterized the earliest Mark I trains. These ideas ultimately evolved into the Monorail Mark II, which featured expanded four-car trains and the addition of Monorail Yellow to further increase capacity.
This 24” x 36” reproduction faithfully captures Bob Gurr’s original concept sketch in its original size and offers a unique glimpse into a pivotal moment in Disneyland history, when one of the park’s most iconic attractions was still evolving on the drawing board.
