Some changes happen without any effort on our part. They just happen. One night you cancel on an old friend to hang out at the bar, and the next thing you know it's been 8 years since you've seen them.
Facebook has a way of keeping us involved in peoples lives at an arms length. We know what our friends are doing, and so when we hang out again for the first time in years, there's not much to talk about.
"Oh Dude. I bought a house!"
"Yeah. I saw it on Facebook! Congrats again!"
Los Guys shows are special. But they happen with such frequencey and without pomp or circumstance that they feel ever-lasting. Like it's okay to miss a show because they'll be one next week. And the next week.
And before you know it, it's been a couple years since you last caught a show.
Regardless of what you're doing, you're living through the best days of your life, right now. You will look back at all of this as the special and wonderous time it truly is. You'll look at old photos and marvel at how thin and young you look. You'll shake your head at stupid you were for not realizing how good you had it.
I don't know the date of this show. In some ways, it doesn't matter. It's just another Los Guys show. And it feels like home in a way very little else does. I don't think we appreciate Mark Zubia or Los Guys enough. So today I tip my hat and my glass to Los Guys and recognize that they're better than we deserve. I really need to make an effort to see them soon.
