THE 2020 TALISMAN SHIPMENT IS ON ITS WAY!

The 2020 edition of the Talisman is making its way to Bedford High School. This is the biggest yearbook we've ever created, and includes a Year-In-Review along with coverage of the beginnings of our journey with Covid-19.

We do not order any extra copies but we are pleased to announce that the yearbook company is also sending us a limited number of their print overruns that may occur during the printing process. They are now available on yearbookforever.com on a first come/first served basis. (Tip: Make sure you specify the Bedford High School in Temperance, MI!)

Yearbooks will be passed out when students return their textbooks and Chromebooks at the end of the year. (A schedule for this has not yet been set so stay tuned for more details on that.)

We look forward to sharing the efforts of your dedicated yearbook staff with all of you. Be safe and GO MULES!

There's a great new way to show our school spirit! On Walsworth Yearbook's new site, you can buy this year's yearbook or a yearbook ad. I showed my school spirit, and you should too. Just go to the website and have fun!

There is a silver lining in the current COVID-19 school closure. While students are learning at home, construction crews can get a head start on the bond work scheduled for this summer. Site work has already begun outside on the Bedford High School/Junior High School Campus. We are so excited to see all of the planning and behind-the-scenes work that has been going on finally turn into reality with crews, equipment and supplies arriving to get the work underway!

Please note that while construction is ongoing at our school building sites, the school campuses will be closed to the general public. This will continue to include all athletic facilities.

Some bond work highlights we look forward to seeing happen over the next 3 months:

-- Start parking lot demolition on High School/Junior High campus and Jackman Road Elementary

-- Start selective demolition work as needed in preparation for repairs, replacements, upgrades specified in bond

-- Start mechanical and electrical rough-in at Bedford High School and Jackman Road Elementary

JUNE

-- Continue with mechanical and electrical rough-in at Bedford High School and Jackman Road Elementary

-- Window removal and replacement to start at Bedford High School and Jackman Road Elementary

-- Parking lot sub-base and site concrete continuing at Bedford High School and Jackman Road Elementary with paving to start

-- Roofing work to start at Douglas Road Elementary, Jackman Road Elementary and Bedford Junior High School (potentially late May start at some buildings)

JULY

-- Mechanical HVAC units to start arriving on-site and being set at both Bedford High School and Jackman Road Elementary

-- Bathrooms at Bedford High School and Jackman Road Elementary

-- Mechanical and electrical rough-in to continue at both Bedford High School and Jackman Road Elementary with final connections starting

-- Paving wear course installation to start

FAMILIES ELIGIBLE FOR FREE/REDUCED SCHOOL MEALS TO GET PANDEMIC EBT PROGRAM BENEFITS

The Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer Program (P-EBT) provides temporary funding to address emergency food needs for families affected by the pandemic. P-EBT food assistance benefits will go to families with students ages 5-18 that are eligible for free or reduced-price school meals. This includes families currently receiving Food Assistance Program benefits as well as those not currently enrolled in the program.

FAMILIES CURRENTLY RECEIVING FOOD ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (FAP) BENEFITS WILL AUTOMATICALLY RECEIVE BENEFITS

Additional benefits will be issued directly to your Bridge Card and can be used in the same way to purchase food items. P-EBT benefits can also be used in the Double Up Food Bucks program.

March and April combined benefits: $193.80 per eligible student will be loaded on the family's Bridge Card by the end of April.

May and June combined benefits: $182.40 per eligible student will be loaded on the family's Bridge Card at a later date yet to be determined.

ELIGIBLE FAMILIES NOT CURRENTLY RECEIVING FOOD ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (FAP) BENEFITS CAN ALSO PARTICIPATE IN PROGRAM

Q. We recently lost our job or took a significant loss in income. What should I do to receive the benefit?

A: Please reach out to your local school/district to learn how to complete an application for Free and Reduced Price School Meals. Your child’s school/district will have to report the change in Free and Reduced-Price Meal eligibility to the state of Michigan to make you eligible for P-EBT.

How to apply for Bedford Public Schools' Free and Reduced School Meals:

Applications for free/reduced meals for 2019-2020 are available online at: https://www.lunchapp.com/

Applications can be printed using this link:http://www.bedford.k12.mi.us/files/2019-20-Free_and_Reduced-price_application.pdf

Applications will also be available at the MRE and BHS "Drive Thru" pickups. Completed applications can also be returned at these locations as well.

Then register on MI Bridges to get the EBT process started: https://newmibridges.michigan.gov/

Eligible families not currently receiving food assistance benefits will receive a pre-loaded Electronic Benefits Transaction (EBT) card in the mail. It will be issued under the name of the oldest student in the household. Benefits for all eligible school-aged children in the home will be loaded onto this one EBT card. Families will also be getting a letter from MDHHS describing how to use their EBT card, how to set up their PIN, and other information about food assistance benefits. This EBT card can be used to purchase food items only, in-person, at any SNAP retailer. The P-EBT card may look different from the Bridge Card but can be used in the same way.

March and April combined benefits: Families will receive an EBT card in the mail pre-loaded with $193.80 per eligible student by the end of the first week in May. Please keep this card to use for ongoing benefits you may receive.

May and June combined benefits: $182.40 per eligible student will be loaded on the family's EBT card at a later date yet to be determined.
