I Pray Our Elders Write Books 📚
Many of our community pilars lived lives that never make it into the pages it deserved.
We lose so much when we don’t encourage them to write their books.
What if we helpedevery elder leave at least one book behind? It doesn’t have to look like what mainstream publishing says a book should be.
It just needs to be theirs—truth in their own words.
When our elders write books, we get to see who we are through who they were. And for us—especially as communities fighting to preserve legacy—that’s how we leave a legacy.
Imagine:
🔶A grandmother writing down how she cooked from scratch when there wasn’t much in the pantry.
🔶A grandfather writing about working the land, or building with his hands, or what it felt like to serve in the military.
🔶An auntie capturing the process of preparing Sunday dinners, the chatter, the prayers, the stories of family gathering around.
🔶An elder speaking directly to the next generation, telling us what they wished someone had told them.
I hope we begin to push the cookbooks, devotionals, poetry collections, family storybooks. Small or big. Self-published or printed on the church copier. We need those voices written down.
