I have a potential problem and was wondering if anyone has ever dealt with this before, or knows any solutions…. I have 9 birds, they were born March 10. Started laying like 2 weeks ago. I’ve been gradually getting more and more eggs as each day passes. Most I ever got was 7 eggs. However, one or maybe two birds may be sick, or have a calcium deficiency? (Or whatever you guys think might be wrong!)
Usually I find one egg that’s shell-less and smashed on the floor of the coop every day. Once I found an egg that looked good, but had yolk all over the outside of it. The other day, a brown bird squatted in the yard and laid an egg that was totally gelatinous. Today I watched a white bird squat and lay an egg with no shell. She then immediately pecked it, broke it and ate the entire thing. The good eggs are always intact and never broken by them. I’m worried about the daily bad eggs and wondering if I need to up their calcium or give something extra. Has anyone dealt with daily eggs that are defective in some way? And have you been able to help your girls?! Im new to chickens this year, and ive POURED over all the info on the FB chicken groups, and The Chicken Chick’s website. Any animal I get- I vow to give it the best life possible. I have pre bought every single medicine necessary for them, after reading everyones horror stories on these pages 😂 Thanks for reading my long post!! ❤️
I also want to add that I clean the run and coop usually twice a day, so they are in a very clean environment!
The pic below is the girls eating corn for the first time. And they’re all staring at it like it’s going to kill them 🤣
