Riley Green and Ella Langley have another chart-topping single, together. The two, who already had a No. 1 hit with “You Look Like You Love Me,” just celebrated their second one, with “Don’t Mind If I Do.” The song, written by Green, is the title track of his latest album.
“I didn’t plan on her being on that song,” Green says on Apple Music Country‘s Kelleigh Bannen. “I wrote it as a duet, but I had her come by the studio to put a female vocal on it just to hear it so I could potentially pitch it around, and she just crushed it. It sounded so great. We are from very similar areas in Alabama, and I think we grew up listening to the same kind of music. So maybe that’s why our voices go so well together, and we’ve got the same kind of twang. “Don’t Mind If I Do’ is my ‘Facebook Post of the Night’

Riley Green and Ella Langley have a Top 10 hit with this single.

We’re now officially more than a quarter of the way through the century, which is pretty insane to think about because if you were around and old to remember the year 2000 it seems like just yesterday everybody was freaking out over Y2K and computers crashing and a global disaster striking at midnight.
I was looking back at the list of songs that are turning 30 this year, it reminded me just how quick time flies.
Songs turning 30 this year were released in 1996, a time in most of our lives when country music was arguably at its peak. It’s the year Tim McGraw married fellow country star Faith Hill, and Brooks & Dunn were nominated for a Grammy for “My Maria.”
We unfortunately lost the legendary Minnie Pearl and Faron Young in 1996, but another future country superstar named Zach Bryan was born that same year. Brooks & Dunn were dominating awards shows, being named Entertainer of the Year at both the CMA Awards and the ACM Awards. And the top new artists were up-and-comers named Trace Adkins and LeAnn Rimes.
In fact, a 14-year old Rimes was dominating awards shows with her debut single “Blue” and was well on her way to becoming one of the biggest country artists of the late ’90s. I thought it would be fun to look back at some of the songs turning 30 this year just to see where country music was 3 decades ago.

A RIFF on what country is really about.

One of the biggest breakout duos in 2025 is perhaps one of the most unlikely. Nobody could have predicted that an Old Order Amish couple could become a viral sensation. But that’s what Pennsylvania’s Ben & Rose have done.

The rise of Ben & Rose is counterintuitive to everything we think we know about virality, social media algorithms, and the other modes of success in the modern era of music. Ben & Rose only appear in the online world thanks to their producer and fellow musician Conrad Fisher. But that’s also what is so appealing about what Ben & Rose are doing. It’s wholesome, it’s authentic, it’s uncorrupted by the sticky residues of the modern music business. It’s simply a young married couple singing from the heart. Check out “Slowly But Surely and “ When You Say Nothing At All” on my ‘Facebook Post of the Night’

One of the biggest breakout performers in country music in 2025 is perhaps one of the most unlikely in the genre's history. Nobody could have predicted that an Old Order Amish couple could become a viral sensation.

This morning we say Happy Birthday to Crystal Gayle born on this day in 1951 in Paintsville, Kentucky. Crystal Gayle (Brenda Gail Webb) is best known for her 1977 country-pop hit, "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue". An award-winning singer, Gayle has accumulated 18 #1 country hits during the 1970s and 1980s. She is the sister of country music icon Loretta Lynn and was also famous for her once nearly floor-length hair. This morning Barry Kent celebrates Crystals birthday by playing one of her biggest hits at 8:30 on The Legend Morning Show.

In what is his first official solo effort after moving on from his original band Promise of the Real, Lukas Nelson flexes his songwriting skills, shows off the latitude of his musical prowess, and perhaps once and for all establishes a legacy under his own name. American Romance is what the album is called, and like the title implies, it’s a journey through the seasons of relationships, from a future full of promise, to irreparable implosion and failure.
What’s hard to assign to the album is the designation of “Traditional Country,” even though the Grammys felt inclined to rubber stamp it as such when it was submitted to the Recording Academy, receiving a nomination in the new category. Instead it’s the breadth of influences, textures, and moods that Lukas Nelson works with that’s one of the album’s strong selling points, and keeps the listener intrigued throughout the dozen tracks.
Yes, there’s traditional country here, namely the fiddle and steel-driven “Outsmarted,” which in early pass thrus of the album immediately reveals itself as a keeper. The heartbreaking ending of “You Were It” is reminiscent of the sparse moments of Red Headed Stranger, and is a sensational tune itself. But there’s so much more going on here, including rock and a greater amalgam of roots. American Romance is a textbook Americana album according to the conventional definition of such things. 2 songs from Lucas are featured on tonight’s ‘Facebook Post of the Night’

There's one way to remove yourself from the overbearing shadow of a maternal or paternal legacy in music, and quell the criticisms of privilege. You can just be so damn good, you blow past all that banter.
