On this Day in 1971 Freddie Hart was #1 on the Country chart with "Easy Lovin" a song that he wrote. "Easy Lovin" revitalized his career. Hart had been in the business since late 1950s with only minor hits, and his record label was even considering dropping his contract. The success of "Easy Lovin" resulted in a new contract with Capitol records and five more consecutive No. 1 country hits over the next two years. Barry Kent plays "Easy Lovin" this morning at 8:30 on The Legend Morning Show.

What a Facebook Post I have for you today!
Tyler Childers and Bob Weir, of Grateful Dead fame, doing Merle Haggard's ‘Mama Tried.”
It was during the 50th anniversary of Ace at Radio City Music Hall back in April 2022, Childers joined Weir and his band the Wolf Brothers for a jam session that consisted of both “Mama Tried,” “Turn On Your Love Light,” “Lady With A Fan” and “Terrapin Station” for an epic, 34-minute performance. The entire set is posted here on my ‘Facebook Post of the Night’

Just like pretty much everybody else in the world, Merle Haggard once had a crush on Dolly Parton.
If you’ve ever heard the two songs “I’ve Got A Yearning” and “Always Wanting You” by Haggard, those are both about Dolly… and Merle announced that to the world during a Ralph Emery On The Record interview.
“I was like a schoolboy. I could have carved ‘Merle loves Dolly’ on every tree in the country if she asked me to.”
Merle even recalled the late night that turned into an early morning when he wrote two songs about his feelings for Parton – “I’ve Got A Yearning” and “Always Wanting You” – and tried to call her at 3:30 in the morning to play her one of them:
“It was about 3 o’clock in the morning. I was at Harrah’s Casino, it must have been 1974. I wrote two songs that night, and both of them are about her. We were using each other for soundboards at the time. I didn’t have any intentions of ever making anything happen out of this love. I knew it was absolutely impossible…
But we could write songs. And so I wrote these two songs: ‘Always Wanting You’ and ‘I’ve Got A Yearning.’ Around 3:30 a.m., I called her house and some lady answered. I said, ‘Is Dolly asleep?’ She said, ‘She sure is.’ I said, ‘Well would you go wake her up? I’ve got a song that I’ve been working on all night and I know she wants to hear it.'”
I have both songs Merle wrote about Dolly on my ‘Facebook Post of the Night’

Halloween has only been over a week and many folks are already thinking about the Christmas season, whether they are preparing for their family Christmas card photos or planning their Christmas trees so they can go up the day after Thanksgiving (or before). And nothing puts you in the Christmas spirit long before Christmas than some classic tunes.
It appears that Zach Top is already in a holly jolly mood because he’s dropping Christmas tunes. Check out this great take on “Blue Christmas”

Charley Crockett on Austin City Limits just makes sense.
Ever since Willie Nelson helped launch the program all the way back in 1974, ACL has been an integral piece of country music and its history. In case you didn’t know, Nelson’s presence on the pilot episode of Austin City Limits helped make Austin, Texas as much of a country music destination as Nashville, Tennessee.
On my ‘Facebook Post of the Night’ we go live with Charley at Austin City Limits.

On this day in 1950 Hank Snow was at #1 on the Country charts with "I'm Moving On". According to Snow, he proposed the song for his first session for RCA Records in 1949, but recording director Stephen H. Sholes turned it down. "Later on, in the spring of 1950, Sholes had not remembered the song, so I recorded it," Snow recalled. The song, stayed at the top of the charts for 21 weeks and was the first of seven #1 country hits Snow scored throughout his career. Barry Kent plays "I'm Moving On" at 8:30 on The Legend Morning Show.
