The colors on the new Jumbotron are a bit more distracting/blinding for opponent field goal attempts than what they are when it’s Illinois’ turn to kick one 😂

Long time no see Facebook. The start of the school year has kept me busy… but I wasn’t gonna miss the start of the Illini Football season! The picture doesn’t do it justice, this scoreboard has its own zip code 😳 Here’s to another season! I-L-L !

An incredibly stationary chain of storms popped up around the I-70 region and places south of there around 11:30 last night. That chain of storms lasted every bit of 8 hours, bringing close to 8” of rain to places that remained under it the entire time. It’s very rare to have a storm remain stationary for THAT long

A cloudless evening in Central Illinois does not really look that way right now. Wildfire smoke continues to pass over, leading to a muted sunset with more of a red hue to it than usual due to different scattering of light compared to normal, smoke-free air.

There are some deceptively strong storms blowing through the area this evening! I just lost a tree limb to the storm moving through Effingham and Teutopolis! Wind blew super hard for about 10 seconds and that’s all it took!

Canadian wildfire smoke is rearing its ugly head again this summer. Across the Great Lakes and parts of the Northeast, the Air Quality Index is Very Unhealthy to Hazardous (Levels 5 and 6 out of 6 on the scale). Although this smoke isn't doing too much to us at the moment aside from adding a dim haze to the sky, its close enough by to where more thick portions of it may move in to Central Illinois in the coming days.

I'm putting together some info for a presentation later this evening, but thought this piece would be worth sharing to everyone. I share this image quite often, and it's usually impossible to make any sense of the image, but that's sort of the point! So far in 2026, there have been 972 Severe Thunderstorm Warnings, 331 Tornado Warnings, and 185 Flash Flood Warnings issued in Illinois or along the state border. No matter where you live, you've had way more than your fair share of active weather for the year.
