Good morning, Texas. šŸ¤ ā˜€ļø Itā€™s Thursday, September 10th, and weā€™re officially ten days into September. At this point, fall isnā€™t late. It may have missed its exit.
North Texas starts off a little more comfortable before warming up, East Texas keeps the humidity hanging around, and Central Texas gets another warm, sunny afternoon. South Texas remains firmly on Team Summer, while West Texas stays mostly hot and dry.
For some of us, the mornings are beginning to offer just enough hope to consider opening a window. By afternoon, that window will be closed and the A/C will have been formally apologized to.
Enjoy the nice moments when you find them.

As we head toward the autumnal equinox in about 2 weeks we are seeing a rapid loss of daylight. Between later sunrises and earlier sunsets we lose over 70 minutes of daylight this month!

There is a stretch of Hill Country two-lane about forty-five minutes from anywhere that will make you pull over and just sit there for a minute. šŸŒ„ Limestone cut on one side, the whole valley falling away on the other, and a river down in the bottom with cypress trees along it.
That rock is the reason for all of it. This part of Texas sits on the Edwards Plateau, and everything about the Hill Country comes down to limestone. It is why the rivers run that particular clear green. It is why the ground goes to bedrock about eight inches down and nobody can grow much of anything. It is why the ranches out there are big, why the cedar took over, and why the water comes up in springs. šŸ’§
People from other states arrive expecting the Texas from the movies, all flat and brown, and then they come around a bend like this one and go quiet. What is the prettiest stretch of road in Texas, and are you willing to say where it is?
