The age between 25-29 is a delicate one if you are a Nigerian Man.
For the male singles, it's even worse. Everything doesn't seem to be working out. The "I must get married before 28" vision has expired. You are currently 28 or approaching with nothing to show for it except a degree statement of results that hasn't earned you a dime so far or even secured you a job interview.
Some fast and pray thrice a week but it seems God isn't listening.
Sometimes you wake up in the middle of the night for no reason because your subconscious isn't happy with the turn life is taking for you.
You sit on your bed and feel this burning sensation in your eyes, like hot liquid struggling to come out as tears.
Your mates are seemly doing better. Good clothes, nice phones, happy moments on Facebook and though sometimes you wanna post your achievements too but there is nothing to write home about.
In the end, it affects your relationship, you wanna be left alone so you consider breaking up or taking a break from it entirely.
You slowly slide into depression.
Your parents aren't helping matters either. They don't understand how tough Nigeria is out there for a young man.
You consider learning a skill, tailoring or whatever, but you feel you are a bit too old to be sitting behind a sewing machine learning how to paddle so you switch off the thought.
You feel your parents are gossiping about you each time you dress to go out.
So you make plans to leave, go far away and don't come back till everything works out.
But you can't afford it. You don't have a friend that can house and feed you till things pan out. So you sit back and the circle continues...
It's not just you, bro. There are hundreds of others out there going through same or even worse. Most are Just masking it up with pretty smiles and a good phone camera.
I wrote this s**t up @ 2:14am because I couldn't sleep. I am in this too, bro. My bills and aspirations keep me awake like everyday.
But I ain't giving up. Neither should you!
In the end, we all are going to tell stories about the days we struggled to sub our phones. Till then, we work till the wheels fall off.
