Race weekend recap
Friday
We started off the night with some hot laps. Got a couple laps in the new to us car before it was time to race for real. We noticed a little bit of a sputter at the beginning of hot laps so made a couple adjustments to the carb before the heat race. Unfortunately while heading to staging the car flooded and would not start back up. So we were not able to start the heat race. We made some more adjustments before the main. Started the main 16th and made it down the front stretch and into turn 1 before coming to a dead stop in turn two. Got caught up in what we believe was a 7 car wreck ending our night. Car was beat up. Hit hard enough to knock the distributor cap off, taking the rotor with it. Bent the lower control arm, lower and upper ball joint, bent a rim, and tweaked some body parts. So we had some work to do Saturday.
Saturday
We came to the track determined to get the car fixed up and ready for the night show. Spent a few hours busting our tails and were able to make it out for some hot laps once again. Car drove fine no issues and felt great. Heat race we started 1st. Was excited to see what we could do. Well we got completely smoked off the start by Prince Whitfield. (Starts are one of the many things we need to work on) 😂 We were in second and figured man if I can fall in line with this kid I could learn something. Well I couldnt keep up with his quick a** So we just made laps trying to figure out how to drive 😂 six laps on a caution came out. We got lined back up still sitting in 2nd. Coming down the back stretch to take the green the car shut off. Again the carb flooded ending our heat race. So back to the drawing board. Messed with the fuel bowl level and fuel pressure. We go out for the main starting 14th.. not sure how we started there but we did 😂 We take the green kinda tip toeing just trying to make laps. We make it one lap and the red comes out for a car upside down i believe. After a few minutes we get moving again and wouldn’t you know it the car shuts off on the front stretch under caution once again ending our night.
No at all the weekend we had hoped for. But there is plenty of silver lining. We made it down into the 15 second range on our fastest lap of the weekend. Previous fastest lap for us was a 16.2 so we are pumped about that. Felt more comfortable in a race car than we have ever. And something we always knew but always amazes us is the camaraderie amongst racers. We had more people than we could count help us this weekend at the track. From fixing things, giving us parts, giving us advice on what to do on and off the track. it was truly awesome to experience.
Thank you to all those that helped this past weekend. We will get this carburetor deal figured out and try again on June 20th.
