Originally from the Coney Island section of Brooklyn, but a longtime resident of the Dyckman Houses in the Inwood section of Manhattan, BigCheckHECK 🎙🎤 has been a longtime staple at the The Red Carpet of Streetball Tournament since the late 2000’s.

Early on, he was a crowd favorite, as his energy could be seen as he showed plenty of excitement in front of cameras, as his passion for the game as a supporter could not be unmatched.

These days, he’s taken his act to the 🎤, as he calls many games for the high school division for the The Red Carpet of Streetball Tournament. He’s still the same energetic person & also knows plenty of the heavy hitters on the high school scene. His most commonly known catchphrase is: “What’s your life like?”

Fall 1988.

Heading into his senior season of high school, Karlton Hines was one of the most sought-after prospects in the class of 1989 and was making noise in various tournaments with the New York Gauchos & also on the prep school scene with Maine Central Institute, which had just won the New England Prep School championship.

At this time, he was verbally committed to play at Syracuse Men's Basketball & was named to the Street & Smith All-American team, alongside players like Bobby Hurley, DR. SHAQUILLE O'NEAL Ed.D., Kenny Anderson, Jim Jackson & many more that went on to play Division I basketball & then eventually went on to play in the NBA.

Unfortunately, Karlton would never get to play at Syracuse Men's Basketball & also left Maine Central Institute that fall to go back to The Bronx, and enrolled at Stevenson High School. Sadly, since he didn’t live in the zoned area, an anonymous coach blew the whistle, which led to him being ruled ineligible, ending his high school career, and also leading to him dropping out of high school four months prior to his graduation.

The ineligibility ruling by the PSAL changed the trajectory of the next five years of Karlton’s life.

Straight out of the Brevoort Houses in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, platinum-selling artist Fabolous has always been a fan of the game of 🏀.

Whenever he pops out to a game, it’s always a great vibe. Whether it’s the PSAL playoffs, the in Long Island or even NY vs. NY, his presence has always been felt.

Many of his songs, including, “Breathe,” always get played at the games. He’s living proof that artists like him never go out of style.

In their first summer in the now eight-team NYvsNY tournament, We Got The Stuy❗️, out of Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, became a force and won game after game in the tournament & made a huge impact.

With the coaching of the New Heights Youth Inc. duo of Rah Anderson🤴🏽 & Rodney Frazier, former NYC girls basketball standout Lawanda Greene (The DeuceTrey Foundation) & former NBA player Jamaal Tinsley, this group of players went all the way to the championship game, where they fell just short of their goal.

However, for the Zone 6 tournament, this is just the first of many triumphs that they will have, as there is nowhere to go but up.
