The Athens NEWS is a weekly controlled circulation newspaper serving Athens and Athens County, Ohio.

The award-winning newspaper is owned by APG Media of Ohio. The Athens NEWS was founded by Bruce Mitchell in the spring of 1977. Published every other week, the thin tabloid was originally sold on Athens downtown street corners for 25 cents. That fall the newspaper converted to free circulation.
