Welcome to the Cyprus Art Retreat in Agioi Vavatsinias, one of Cyprus’s most picturesque mountain villages. At 700 meters above sea level, its stone houses and chestnut-coloured hills offer an ideal setting for creativity, learning, and relaxation.

Our workshops invite you to step away from daily demands and immerse yourself in Cypriot artistry. Guided by local artisans, you will explore traditional crafts that have shaped the island’s cultural identity for generations. They are ideal for individuals, families, and small groups seeking meaningful, hands-on cultural experiences.

We offer:
– Traditional woodcarving: Learn hand-carving with classic tools to create decorative or functional pieces inspired by Cypriot heritage.
– Relief woodcarving: Explore sculptural carving with raised designs, as seen in doors, furniture, and church panels across Cyprus.
– Mosaic: Design and assemble your own mosaic from stone, glass, or tile, from planning and material selection to final image or pattern.
– Children’s workshop: A session for younger participants focused on creativity, play, and safe, age-appropriate, confidence-building projects.

Cyprus Art Retreat – Agioi Vavatsinias Spoon Carving Workshop

Set in the tranquil mountain village of Agioi Vavatsinias, our Cyprus Art Retreat offers a distinctive creative experience. A highlight of the programme is the spoon carving workshop, popular with both newcomers and returning participants.

Led by master craftsman Tony H, the workshop introduces the traditional art of hand-carved wooden spoons, rooted in rural heritage and everyday craft. Under Tony’s guidance, participants learn to select suitable wood, use carving tools, axe and knife safely, and shape a simple piece of timber into a functional, beautifully finished utensil.

The workshop’s appeal lies in both learning a new skill and the immersive, meditative process. Participants engage with natural materials and the slow rhythm of traditional making—a welcome contrast to modern professional life. The experience offers a tangible outcome—your own carved spoon—alongside benefits such as patience, focus, and renewed appreciation for craft.

Usually, we paint around the village. One day, a YiaYia named Cornelia kindly gave us access to her garden and yard, allowing us to explore and paint through observation. 🎨 👨‍🎨

Two gentlemen, Phillip and Flip, came for an art retreat, and together we painted doors, flower pots, flowers, and other details around the village, using acrylic as our medium.

It was a great experience!
