Just because the builder put it there, doesn’t mean you’re stuck with it! 🛑
I see this all the time when walking properties—gates that open directly into AC units, or sidewalks that force you onto a bizarre path just to get to the grass.
Here is your official reminder: It’s YOUR yard. You do not have to live with a frustrating layout just because it was the easiest option for the builder when the house was built.
If a walkway blocks your flow or a gate placement annoys you every single day, change it! Rerouting a sidewalk or moving an entry point is one of the fastest ways to actually make your outdoor space functional and enjoyable.

Today is World Lupus Day, and I’m wearing my purple with a lot of pride. 💜
In the video below, I’m sharing a side of the Texas Turf Diva you might not know. I was diagnosed with Lupus at just 16 years old. While I’ve been in remission for 10 years now, many people don’t realize that autoimmune disorders often travel in pairs—for me, that means navigating Fibromyalgia as well.
Between running this business with my husband and raising our three girls, I’ve had to learn the hard way: You can’t do it all, and when your body tells you to rest, you have to listen. 🛑✨
That’s a huge reason why I’m so passionate about what we do. Life is busy and health is precious; your backyard should be a sanctuary where you can actually relax and recharge, not a place that adds more chores to your weekend.

Don’t let a neighbor’s small leak become your big landscape headache! 🏠🚜
We’re out here at a recent project where the turf was completely buried under mud and mulch. What happened? It was a "perfect storm" of two issues:
1️⃣ The Neighbor’s Gutter: A broken gutter next door was dumping a massive amount of water directly into our customer's yard.
2️⃣ The Retention Wall: The mulch and plant levels were too high. These walls are hollow, so the fix is actually simple—lower the plant levels so the wall can do its job and retain the material!
The Moral of the Story: If you notice a drainage issue or a broken gutter, get it fixed right away! It’s much cheaper than a full turf restoration. 💸
Pro-Tip from the Diva: You’ll see us using a garden hose to heavily saturate the turf in this video. Normally, we do not recommend this because it can wash away or disturb the infill. However, the dirt was so deep into the base that we had no other choice. We made sure to let the turf dry completely and then re-infilled it to perfection!

Don’t let your investment sink! 📉🚫
One of the biggest mistakes we see in artificial turf installation is “stump grinding” instead of full extraction. Here’s the dirty truth: if you leave those roots behind, you’re basically building your lawn on a ticking time bomb. 💣
Why the “Whole Root System” matters:
When tree stumps and roots are left underground, they eventually begin to decay. As that organic matter rots away, it creates hollow voids beneath the surface. Eventually, the earth above it collapses to fill that space, causing your expensive base material to sink right along with it. 🕳️
At EZ Turf The Woodlands, we don’t cut corners. We excavate the entire root structure, fill the voids with 2 base layers. First a layer of limestone ,compact that and then another layer of decomposed granite, and compact it for a rock-solid foundation that lasts for years. 🏗️💪
Don’t just “hide” the stump—remove the problem. Do it right the first time!

🚨Not every turf installation is done correctly… and unfortunately we were called out to repair this one. 🚑

When we pulled the turf back, here’s what we found:

• Plastic liner (instead of w**d fabric)
• No bender board (just base material spilling into yard)
• Wrong nails used (3 inch common nail vs 6 inch nail)
• Wrong adhesive. (did not secure turf to concrete)
• No seaming tape. (just landscape staples)

Shortcuts during installation might save money in the beginning, but they almost always cause bigger problems later.

When we come in for repairs like this, we do the best we can to correct the issues — but sometimes a repair can cost nearly as much as the original turf job because we have to undo the mistakes first.

Rule of thumb: choose a reputable company with real reviews — one that can explain their material choices and stand behind their work.

💧 Sprinklers + Artificial Turf: Pros & Cons 🌱

PROS:
✔️ You can rinse your turf anytime
✔️ Helps cool the surface during hot Texas days
✔️ Great for quick clean-ups (pets, pollen, dust)

CONS:
⚠️ Sprinkler repairs under turf are costly
Once turf is installed, repairs require pulling it back, fixing the line, re-compacting the base, reinstalling, and re-securing the turf
⚠️ Over time, minerals in irrigation water can leave buildup—similar to the white marks you see on fences or around outdoor faucets

💡 Bottom line:
Sprinklers can be helpful, but they’re not always necessary with artificial turf. Knowing the trade-offs helps you make the right call for your yard and budget.
