Yes, food is fuel but it’s not just that.

There’s so many traditions, events, and habits that food is a huge part of. Think of your grandmother’s sweet potato pie on Thanksgiving. What about your mom’s potato salad and gumbo. Your favorite restaurant’s comb salad with house made dressing. Or the birthday cake at your kid’s party. Food has always been deeper than just fuel and I’m here to tell you THAT’S OK!

It’s ok to enjoy foods that we love. I think many of us begin to question this when we become aware that some foods are more nutritious than other foods. Or maybe the labeling of foods as “good” and “bad” or “clean” and “junk” adds morality to food that shouldn’t be there.

Regardless, we should fill our body with foods that are nourishing. That hasn’t changed. But we shouldn’t have to completely cut out foods that we enjoy for taste and memory that ALSO make our bodies feel GOOD when eaten in moderation.

These are some of the lessons intuitive eating has taught me. Tell me your thoughts in the comments ⬇️

👋🏾 Hey Facebook friends, it’s been awhile!

Happy National Registered Dietitian Day to all the RD & future RDs out there!

The work that we do is important and needed by so many. We use evidence based research to work with individuals to make attainable nutrition goals that fit into their lifestyle.

Reminder: you’re not required to be perfect or pretend to live this unattainably “healthy lifestyle.” You can be an example of balance, sustainability, food freedom, listening to your body/hunger cues, and ultimately that no two people are required to eat the same way. 🤎

I love a Sunday Rest 😌

It’s the perfect day to set yourself up for a great week. That can include meal prep, laundry, and goal setting or simply a little rest and pure joy.

Do something you enjoy today. Sometimes for me that’s laying in the grass, eating a nourishing meal, & drinking a warm beverage. Or cuddling with my family and cooking a comforting meal.

*The bowl is just Mango Chutney Turkey Meatballs in the Dole Sesame Asian chopped salad. And ironically the bev is Chai Tea w/ almond milk & honey🍯

P.S. If you saw my stories a few weeks back about this author, I finished Milk & Honey & I’m currently reading The Sun & Her Flowers. And then I’m done w/ her books 🤗
Any poetry book suggestions?
Please & Thank you ♥️

Hurricane snacks die hard 😌

I hope you all are well 🙏🏾 It’s been a month since I popped on to say Hi. I took a 2 week social media detox & then Ida happened. I’m grateful that I & all of my family and friends are alive and safe 🙌🏾 We were able to help each other through this rough time and it was beautiful to witness, though not easy. Im grateful that my husband was so prepared (bc I wasn’t!) and that things are feeling more normal this week. There’s lots of work still to be done in our community and I know so many are still struggling. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Regardless of your current situation I hope you’re able to take a moment to appreciate the gift of life. Dance in the rain, soak up some sun, spend sacred time w/ God, talk to a friend, or have a comforting snack… all are important for healing and peace. This too shall pass.

As always sending you peace & love… God’s peace & love💕☀️

To all my toddler parents struggling through meal time, I’m here FOR and WITH you! Sometimes he wears boots for breakfast and sits at the table vs the high chair but he always feeds the dog 🤷🏾‍♀️

Some mornings breakfast looks like this: Cheerios, grapes, and scrambled eggs w/ shredded cheese & sometimes it’s a frozen whole grain waffle or granola bar or oatmeal, every blue moon a donut, OR realizing he’s skipped breakfast all together. It’s ok. Just do your best.

(If you can still read through sleep deprivation, being tugged on, and between cleaning up messes 🤪)

▫️Aim for whole grains, fruit and vegetables, lean proteins, dairy or dairy alternatives, and plenty of water.

▫️Be an example and try new things because children model our eating patterns.

▫️Reintroduce foods they’ve pushed away in the past. One day they’ll grow to like it or they’ll eat it anyway because you’ve taught them that it’s good for them.

Our kids trust us. It’s our job to give them the best opportunities to live a happy and healthy life.
