Update 8-20-25:
Family and friends notified our office that while Anna was her legal name, she always went by Sophie. Her name has been updated to reflect how those close to her knew her.

Investigation by the Gallatin County Coroner’s Office and Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office determined Sophie’s manner of death to be accidental.

Shortly after 4 PM on Wednesday, Aug. 13, the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office and investigators from Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad responded to an accident involving a pedestrian that was struck by a train near the Milwaukee Fishing Access Site near Three Forks. The female was identified as 20-year-old Anna Steigerwald of Littleton, CO. who died after being struck by the train.

Sheriff Dan Springer wishes to express our deepest condolences to the family, friends and all affected by the tragic loss of Anna.
