Two adults, two juveniles charged after Tiffin robbery

Two adults and two juveniles are facing robbery-related charges following an alleged armed robbery Tuesday afternoon in Tiffin, according to the Tiffin Police Department.

Police said officers were dispatched around 1:30 p.m. June 2 to the 100 block of Melmore Street for a reported armed robbery that had just occurred. The victim told officers four individuals displayed what appeared to be a handgun during the robbery.

Patrol officers and detectives responded and began interviewing the victim and witnesses. Within about 50 minutes of the initial call, investigators identified the suspects and took two adults and two juveniles into custody.

Investigators also recovered an airsoft-style handgun believed to have been used during the incident.

Police identified the adult suspects as Oliver Armstrong, 18, and Trenton Cook, 18. Both were charged with complicity to aggravated robbery and are being held at the Seneca County Jail.

One juvenile was charged with complicity to aggravated robbery, while a second juvenile was charged with aggravated robbery. Both juveniles are being held at the Seneca County Youth Center.

No injuries were reported.

“This case was resolved quickly due to the immediate response of patrol officers, the rapid communication and information gathering by dispatchers, and the investigative efforts of Detective Sergeant Nowak and Detective Stafford,” Lt. Jason Windsor said in the release.

Old Fort’s Emma Pump Punches Ticket to State With Personal-Best Run in 400 meters

FOSTORIA — Old Fort junior Emma Pump is headed to the OHSAA State Track and Field Championships after a breakthrough performance Saturday at the Division IV regional meet in Fostoria.

Pump finished third in the girls 400-meter dash with a personal-best time of 58.16 seconds, earning an automatic berth to Columbus this week.

Following the race, Pump said qualifying for state had been a longtime goal.

“I never thought this would happen,” Pump said. “This has always been a big goal of mine, but my work paid off and I’m really happy to go.”

Pump credited months of offseason preparation and endurance training for helping her reach the state stage.

“I took the summer off. I just wasn’t really motivated,” she said. “Then January hit and I was like, I have to get going.”

She said much of her preparation included long repeat workouts and endurance sessions.

“I would do long repeats, like 350 repeats, just a lot of endurance training,” Pump said.

Pump said she trained mostly on her own this season but plans to compete in indoor track in the future to continue improving.

The state appearance will be the first of Pump’s career. She will compete at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus during the OHSAA State Track and Field Championships June 4-5.

Freshman Leah Ritzler Makes Seneca East History With Four State Qualifications

Fostoria— Seneca East freshman Leah Ritzler is heading to the OHSAA State Track and Field Championships in four events after a standout performance at the Division IV regional meet, becoming the first athlete in school history to qualify for state in four events in the same season.

Ritzler advanced in the 1600-meter run with a third-place finish in 5:15.10 and earned an at-large berth in the 800-meter run after placing sixth in 2:22.31 — the fastest sixth-place qualifying time in the state. She also qualified as part of the Tigers’ 4x800 relay team and in the 3200-meter run.

“I definitely didn’t think I was going to be able to do it in four events,” Ritzler said. “I knew the mile and two mile were the ones I really wanted to go in, but the 800 was kind of just running.”

The freshman said she felt most confident in the 1600 because of her experience in the event dating back to middle school competition.

“Probably the 1600, just because that’s what I ran the most in,” she said.

Seneca East coach Matthew Schock praised Ritzler’s ability to manage the demanding regional schedule and stay composed throughout the meet.

“She ran smart, controlled races in all of them,” Schock said. “She was calculating where she was and not exerting too much. She had enough left to do well in all of them.”

Schock noted that changes to the OHSAA state meet schedule, including moving the 3200 to a separate day, helped make Ritzler’s accomplishment possible for distance runners.

“You had no chance to do what she did if it was all in one day,” Schock said. “Breaking that up gives distance runners a fair shot to do well in all of their events.”

Ritzler credited her postseason experience in cross country and basketball for helping her stay calm on the big stage.

“Our basketball team made it to the Final Four, and cross country went to state too,” Ritzler said. “I guess I wasn’t really nervous for that or anything.”

Three of Ritzler’s relay teammates from the 4x800 team were also part of Seneca East’s state-qualifying cross country and basketball teams, giving the group extensive postseason experience together.

Despite the historic achievement, Schock joked the freshman may finally get a short break once the state meet concludes.

“She’s not starting summer running right away,” Schock said with a laugh. “We’ll give her a whole 10 days.”

The OHSAA State Track and Field Championships are scheduled for June 4-5 in Columbus.

Juveniles Identified Following Multi-County Pursuit Through Seneca County and Fostoria

The Findlay Police Department says charges are being filed after a vehicle pursuit early Sunday morning traveled through Seneca County, Fostoria and Arcadia before ending back in Findlay.

According to a news release, officers attempted to stop a gray 2018 Jeep Renegade around 12:12 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of Tiffin Avenue and North Blanchard Street in Findlay. Police said the driver failed to stop and fled through the east side of town, allegedly running several traffic signs and traffic lights while reaching speeds of 50 mph.

Authorities said the pursuit later continued eastbound on Tiffin Avenue out of Findlay, where speeds reportedly reached 115 mph. The chase entered Seneca County on State Route 224 before continuing onto State Route 23 and into Fostoria.

Police said the pursuit traveled through Fostoria and Arcadia before ending on Ivy Lane in Findlay after the vehicle was stopped with spike strips deployed by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the release, both the driver and passenger fled on foot after the vehicle stopped but were later identified. Officials said both individuals are juveniles and charges are pending.

The incident remains under investigation by the Findlay Police Department.

From Small School to State Stage: Old Fort 4x400 Makes History

FOSTORIA — Old Fort’s boys 4x400-meter relay team delivered one of the biggest moments of the OHSAA Division IV Regional Finals on Saturday, capturing a regional championship and punching its ticket to the state track and field championships June 4-5 in Columbus.
The Stockaders quartet of Isaac Gallagher, Brayden Davis, Aiden Dick and Aiden Chapman combined for a school-record performance in the finals, continuing a season-long rise that turned a small-school relay team into one of the area’s top contenders.
Gallagher opened the race before Davis powered through the second leg to help Old Fort seize control. Dick held the lead on the third leg with passing Pandora setting up Chapman for the anchor leg sprint to the finish line using the final 100 meters to have the front guy block of the the wind before Chapman went round and came in first place.
For Davis, the accomplishment reflected months of work behind the scenes.
“We worked our butts off this season,” Davis said. “I don’t think a single one of us here have missed a practice.”
The relay team improved dramatically throughout the spring after beginning the season running in the 3:37 range before dropping more than 13 seconds by regionals.
Despite coming from one of the smallest schools competing at regionals, the Stockaders embraced the challenge.
“It really shows that even though you may not have the class size of 30-40 people it’s about the amount of work that you really put in and the bond you have for your teammates,” Davis said. “Even though we’re a small school (Old Fort) doesn’t mean we can’t compete.”
Gallagher, running in just his second year of track, said the relay’s chemistry has made the experience special.
“This is only my second year on track, so I never thought I’d be running 51s, making it to state in the 4x4,” Gallagher said. “I got really close to them two. It’s been fun.”
Dick admitted the pressure intensified once Old Fort grabbed the lead entering his leg of the race.
“I was running scared,” Dick said. “I was just trying to stay ahead the first two and just give it everything you got in the last and just try and hold off everyone.”
Chapman sealed the victory with a strong closing kick over the final stretch.

“The last 100 meters, I just kick it because that’s when I had the most energy to give it all I got,” Chapman said.
As the team celebrated its regional title moments after crossing the finish line, the reality of qualifying for state finally began to sink in for the Stockaders, who will now head to Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium looking to continue their historic season.

Lakota Relay Team Captures Regional Title, Sends Multiple Athletes to State

The Lakota Raiders are sending a strong group of athletes to the OHSAA Division IV State Track and Field Championships after an impressive showing Friday at the regional finals in Marion.

Leading the way was Lakota’s boys 4x400 relay team of Avery Shilling, Brady Tyson, King Beard and Donovan Statham, who captured the regional championship with a season-best and school-record time of 3:21.40. The Raiders enter the state meet as the third-fastest team in Ohio, separated from the top time by just over half a second.

Lakota coach Ashley Allen said the relay team’s chemistry has been years in the making.

“They’ve been together since eighth grade,” Allen said. “Every single week since the postseason, they have PR’d. They have broken their own school record every single time they’ve run.”

Allen praised the group’s connection and consistency throughout the postseason.

“They just click,” Allen said. “It doesn’t matter what they do. They’re the fastest.”

Several Raiders also qualified individually for the state meet.

King Beard advanced in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dash after placing fifth in the 100 and fourth in the 200. Donovan Statham qualified in the 400-meter dash after taking third with a personal-record time of 49.43. Lucas McEwan earned a state berth in the 300-meter hurdles with a fifth-place finish.

Allen said the Marion regional featured some of the best competition in the state.

“They’ve been calling this the state prelims all week because that’s really what this is,” Allen said. “They’re going to see the same teams at state next week.”

Lakota also recognized senior Rylee Markel for qualifying to regionals in the long jump. According to the program, Markel first tried the event on Senior Night before eventually advancing to the regional meet.

The OHSAA State Track and Field Championships will take place June 4-5 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
