🗣 We're the life of the party, but we're not always there to work. 👈🏾
When a Dancehall Queen, or dancer comes to your event as a paying customer and has not been booked to perform, please allow them to enjoy themselves just like everyone else.
Seeing a performer in the building does NOT automatically mean you have free entertainment for the night.
Sometimes we simply want to dance, laugh, socialize, enjoy the music, support the event and catch a vibe with everybody else. 💃🏾🤸🏾♀️
If you want us to entertain your crowd, BOOK US‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
And please, stop reaching out to DHQ's, and dancers at the last minute expecting them to suddenly rearrange their lives, show up and run around like a damn race car entertaining your crowd for free. 😂🏎️💨
Give us the same consideration and advance notice you would give any other professional you're asking to work.
Some of us are mothers.
Some are caregivers.
Some have other jobs, businesses, families, bills and responsibilities.
And even when dance IS our business, we still have schedules, commitments and lives outside of the stage.
A friend asking for a business favor does not make the work any less valuable.
I support my friends' businesses because I genuinely want to support them. If they choose to offer me a discount, barter, trade or another arrangement, that's their choice. I don't walk into someone's business expecting a favor simply because we're friends. The same respect should go both ways. Because when you undervalue someone's work, you're not just undervaluing a dance.
You're undervaluing their time.
Their preparation.
Their talent.
Their expenses.
Their livelihood.
Behind those few minutes/hours on the dance floor can be days or weeks of preparation: choreography, conditioning, rehearsals, costumes, hair, makeup, transportation, travel and other expenses, creating a mix, and so much more, before we ever step foot in your door and in front of that crowd.
We are professionals. This is our job.
If the DJ gets paid, the host gets paid, the band gets paid and the other entertainment gets paid, the DHQ and dancers deserves to be compensated too.
And when we ARE booked, please give us room to work. Clear the performance space. Don't walk through it, bump into performers or try to dance over them while they're performing. And please give us a clean spill free space. We do not want to perform tricks on liquor.
We are not props.
We are not free entertainment.
We are professionals doing a job.
Give us room to put on the show we're COMPENSATED to do.
If you see me at your event and I paid my way in? 😌 LET ME CATCH MY VIBE.
If I decide to bust a move because I WANT to, enjoy it! 💛 That's different.
But if you want me to work? BOOK. THE. PERFORMER. 💰💃🏾👑
This isn't about putting down DJs, hosts, musicians, promoters, other artists or anyone else in the entertainment industry. It's simply about recognizing that DHQ's, dancers/performers deserve the same professional respect as everyone else.
Respect the craft.
Respect the Queens.
Respect the time.
Respect the talent.
Respect the Crown.
