Uh-oh...HE is coming.

See, every year around this time (even when it's over 80 degrees like it has been...bah), I (Daryl) go through a metamorphosis of sorts, and I change into my candy-grabbin', skull-rattlin', bad-dancin', and music-slingin' alter ego, DJ Dar B. Darkly! And, starting tonight (with a few exceptions), he will rule the eerie airwaves emanating from Camp AlterWorld until November 1.

Oh, no! I can feel myself changing! No, wait! Really, I do! I mean it!

*Cue thunder and maniacal laughter*

Tonight, I'm kicking things off with a mellower little ditty that sounds like something the ghosts of the Overlook Hotel would gleefully dance (and murder) to! We're getting in on the ground floor...no, make that the FOURTH floor, of this musical descent into the abyss with The Nightworker's "Floor 4," taken from the album "Songs From a Haunted Elevator."

After messing around with a few short horror projects since May and watching them, for the most part, stay inside my imagination (where they now stagnate), an idea for a new AlterWorld project hit me.

I know, I know. So much for that long creative hiatus from AlterWorld I bi***ed about some months back.

But instead of producing new content with YouTube in mind (where the algorithm will no doubt keep us in our place and I can prove my insanity by doing the same things over and over again and expecting different results), I'm switching gears and shooting for television. Specifically, national primetime airings on PBS during the Halloween season of either 2026 or 2027.

The project is called "Dark Disturbances: Lake Erie's Haunted History and Folklore." A half-hour or one-hour special (the project is still very early in its conceptual phase) that dives into some of the more macabre history and spookier legends of the Lake Erie region. While I have several locations in mind, I'm not revealing them publicly yet because, as stated above, the project is still very early in development.

Money will have to be raised due to the scope of this project, which is definitely on a higher scale than anything I've done before. Main fundraising will probably have to be through Indiegogo, with Patreon being the "side hustle." This is not only to (finally) upgrade all of our main filming cameras (and maybe add a drone), but to also pay the distribution costs for PBS to air the special. Travel expenses will also be considered. And finally, I'm considering a Blu-ray release, possibly as a higher tier perk of the Indiegogo fundraiser that can also be purchased later on after the airings. I think the fundraiser will be for $5,000 or less; I haven't crunched any numbers yet.

But I'm getting way ahead of myself here. Right now, we're tentatively planning to do some location filming during peak fall colors in October/November and then I can start revealing the locations and legends we're covering.

For now, all I can do is continue my research.

You may not be interested in or personally like anything that I create. That's fine; no one can please everybody. But I am here to fight ensh*ttification.

Yes, ensh*ttification. Look it up if you don't know. Because I've used this word, I'm sure very few of you will see this post now.

This is why I don't rush video projects and why I don't post on social media more frequently. I like to put maximum effort into our videos (whether those that see them like them or not). Same thing with social media posts; if I don't have anything that I believe is interesting to say, I just S**U (wish I could do that in real life, ha-ha). If I try to feed the algorithms, I feel like I'm further diluting media platforms that are already oversaturated to the point where very little can stand out.

Some creators can pump out good content on a regular basis, and I have to respect them for it. I wish I could work faster. But I'm going to stay true to what we as AlterWorld want to create and not what algorithms want us to do.

It may limit our reach, but it also keeps us in the dark corners of the internet. And, if you ask me, that's right where we belong.

I entered this competition in 2023 when it was called Face of Horror and, with the help of a few dedicated friends, made it to the later rounds.

I hope Juicy Jeff goes farther than I did and wins the whole thing.
