Love it or hate it, Friday the 13th (1980) helped launch one of the most successful horror franchises of all time.

Camp Crystal Lake, Jason Voorhees, countless sequels, and a legacy that still influences horror more than 40 years later.

So while the original movie may not be our favorite slasher, there's no denying its impact on horror history.

That said...

We still have some questions about the lighting choices. 😂🔦

Horror fans always hear about the "rules" of slasher movies...

But then you go back and watch Halloween and Friday the 13th and realize those rules aren't nearly as consistent as people remember. 😂

We started questioning slasher movie logic and immediately talked ourselves into a corner.

One of the most iconic moments in Friday the 13th almost looked very different.

While filming the legendary Kevin Bacon kill, the practical effect reportedly malfunctioned, forcing the crew to improvise on the spot.

The result?

One of the most memorable effects in horror history.

While filming the final confrontation in Friday the 13th (1980), Betsy Palmer apparently approached one rehearsal scene with a very simple philosophy:

If the script says slap...
..then slap. 😂

We ended up going down a rabbit hole discussing one of the funniest behind-the-scenes stories from the movie and it completely changed how we watched the scene.

Annie gets picked up on her way to Camp Crystal Lake and starts talking about her lifelong dream of working with children...

Before Camp Crystal Lake turns into absolute chaos, one man tried to warn everybody...

Crazy Ralph 😂

He shows up, declares the camp has a death curse, predicts doom, and somehow nobody thinks maybe they should listen to him.

We're kicking off our Friday the 13th (1980) coverage this week on The Cinebytes, with the full episode dropping Tuesday! 🔪🩸

If you’ve never seen The Lost Boys, just know there’s a completely unhinged saxophone concert scene in the middle of vampire chaos 😂

Chains hanging everywhere.
Spandex pants.
Fire barrels.
Crowds screaming.
And this dude absolutely SHREDDING “I Still Believe.”

Movies used to have so much personality.

We started noticing how many times everyone says “Michael” in The Lost Boys… and eventually it became impossible to ignore 😂

At some point this movie basically turns into:
“Michael.”
“Michael.”
“MICHAEL.”

Honestly, it could be a drinking game.
