LITTLE EGG HARBOR: Evacuation UPDATE

The press release below ⬇️ is from the Little Egg Harbor Township Police Department

On Monday, February 9, 2026 at approximately 1208 hours, Little Egg Harbor Police and Fire personnel were dispatched to the Mystic Meadows Rehabilitation and Nursing Center located on 9th Avenue in Little Egg Harbor, NJ, relating to an alarm activation.
Upon arrival, first responders observed water flowing out of ceiling locations throughout the building, and facility staff reported natural gas odors.
Procedurally, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department receives notification of alarm activations at nursing facilities, and also responded to the location.
Additional responses by NJ Natural Gas, the Little Egg Harbor MUA, Great Bay EMS, the Ocean County Fire Marshall, and local, county, and state inspectors occurred, after which an assessment of the building’s condition took place.
It was determined that no natural gas leaks were present, however water damage to the building, and the lack of potable water and fire suppression systems made the building unsafe to inhabit in its condition. Facility managers and staff worked with first responders and Emergency Management personnel to coordinate the safe evacuation of approximately 110 residents to facilities throughout the state.
Little Egg Harbor Police Department would like to thank all agencies that responded and provided assets and personnel to assist with the operation.
