Halloween Safety Tips For Trick Or Treating from our friends at Garden State Confidential 🙃

🔦 Be seen: Ensure costumes are visible by using reflective tape, glow sticks, or flashlights, especially when trick-or-treating after dark.

👹 👻 🤖 Choose safe costumes: Opt for flame-resistant materials and avoid long, trailing fabrics that can be tripping hazards. Face paint is often safer than masks, which can obstruct vision.

👩🏻‍🦳👦🏼🧒🏼 Stay with an adult: Children should always trick-or-treat with a responsible adult and young children should not trick-or-treat alone.

🚶‍♀️‍➡️🚶🚶‍♂️ Travel safely: Stick to sidewalks and crosswalks, walk instead of run, and look both ways before crossing the street. Never cut through backyards, alleys, or parks, and avoid crossing between parked cars.

🏠 🏡 Go to familiar places: Only trick-or-treat in well-lit neighborhoods on well-known streets.

🍫 🍬 🍭 Check the candy: Have an adult thoroughly inspect all treats before eating. Discard any unwrapped, homemade, or unfamiliar items.

🐕 🐈 Avoid stray animals: Be cautious around unfamiliar pets and avoid any contact with stray animals.

For Homeowners:

💡 Light up the area: Keep your porch light on to welcome trick-or-treaters and make your home visible.

🏠 Clear the path: Remove any potential hazards like garden hoses, rakes, or decorations from your walkway, porch, and steps.

🕯️ Be safe with candles: Use battery-operated flameless candles instead of real ones. If you must use real candles in jack-o'-lanterns, place them on a stable surface and away from flammable decorations, curtains, or anything that could ignite.

🐶 🐈 Manage pets: Keep pets in a separate room to prevent them from frightening or biting trick-or-treaters.
