Transparency!!! The word has been thrown around and used as some kind of blunt instrument by those who seek to unseat the Mayor at any cost to tour town. So, in the interest of said transparency, I think it's important we know who and what ls behind this cabal. Why are your utility bills so high? Why is there a climate tax on almost anything you buy? Does this align with Republican values? Phil Brilliant, the self-aggrandizing big top leader of the anything but transparent non-certified Republican club, who has spent 2 and a half years, 7 days a week, castigating the Mayor, is the treasurer of a Green Faith chapter, among other extremist climate causes that would make Greta Thunberg blush. Is this who we want pulling the puppet strings behind the curtain?
GreenFaith was among the organizers of the 2017 People's Climate March in Washington, D.C.[19]

On December 6, 2019, GreenFaith protested the financial institutions in Washington, D.C. that profited from fossil fuel projects and immigrant detention. American actress Jane Fonda spoke at the protest.
In October 2021, Roman Catholic association Sisters of Mercy of the Americas protested fossil fuels and the climate emergency outside Bay View Academy in Riverside, Rhode Island. The sisters cited their support of GreenFaith's Washington D.C. protests calling for green energy, commending the marches' leadership by Native American activists.[21]
In October 2022, GreenFaith members in Charlotte, North Carolina held a peaceful protest outside of the Bank of America's headquarters, urging a Just Transition to renewable energy.[4]
In November 2022, it organized religious leaders to call for a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty, representing more than 1.5 billion people worldwide, ahead of that year's United Nations Climate Change Conference in Egypt.[22]
In September 2023, GreenFaith was among the 500 groups participating in New York City's March to End Fossil Fuels.[24] Other backers and participants included senator Ed Markey, Michigan rep. Rashida Tlaib, New York rep. Jamaal Bowman, Tennessee rep. Justin Pearson, actress Jane Fonda, Canadian actress Naomi Klein, actor Mark Ruffalo, and environmentalist Bill McKibben.[24] About 10,000 protestors were expected, including Goldman Environmental Prize winners Nalleli Cobo and Sharon Lavigne, UN youth adviser Ayisha Siddiqa, and climate scientist Peter Kalmus.[24]
The Call for Fossil Fuel DivestmentGreenFaith is a driving force behind the global fossil fuel divestment movement. Alongside other religious networks, GreenFaith encourages faith institutions, pension funds, and universities to divest their assets from conventional energy companies. The religious argument labels investments in coal, oil, and gas as "sinful" or deeply immoral. The Goal: To remove the "social license" of fossil fuel corporations, thereby making it harder and more expensive for them to finance new projects. The Scale: Over 1,600 institutions, with a heavy representation from religious groups, have committed to multi-trillion dollar divestments.
2. Targeting the Financial "Enablers"GreenFaith actively protests major global banks (such as Chase, Citibank, and Wells Fargo) and investment firms (like Vanguard) that continue to pour trillions of dollars into the fossil fuel industry. The organization views the ongoing funding of climate-destroying projects as both an environmental catastrophe and an injustice to marginalized communities.
3. Advocating for a "Just Transition" and Policy ChangeGreenFaith pushes for structural economic changes. They advocate for:The Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty: A push to end all new coal, oil, and gas production and phase out existing operations.Reallocation of Subsidies: Fighting against government subsidies for fossil fuel giants, releasing reports like "Subsidizing Ruin is Wrong" to emphasize the moral necessity of funding clean energy and green jobs.If you'd like to get involved or learn more, I can:Provide details on how to join their local grassroots affiliate circles near Toms River, NJ.Explain the exact steps for faith institutions to divest their portfolios from fossil fuels.Show you how to contact your own bank or pension manager regarding their fossil fuel investments.Let me know what you would like to explore next!10 sitesGreenFaithUSA.
