Following their 11-6 win over the Morgan Trojans Friday evening, the Grantsville softball team is heading back to the championship game. Just like last year, the Cowboys will face the Emery Spartans for the opportunity to win their third-straight 3A state title. The game will take place at the Spanish Fork Softball Complex and starts at 12:30 p.m.

The Cowboys baseball team also won their afternoon game and advanced in the 3A baseball tournament, after defeating the Delta Rabbits 14-11. They will face the Juab Wasps on Monday, in a single-elimination game at Utah Valley University. First pitch is set for 11 a.m.

Three of Tooele County's high school baseball and softball teams were eliminated from their respective state tournaments this afternoon.

Grantsville baseball is leading 13-4 in its game against the Delta Rabbits, as of this post's publishing. The Cowboys' softball semifinal matchup against the Morgan Trojans is currently underway.

Down 8-2 in their quarterfinal game, the Cowboys' softball team mounted a five-run comeback at the bottom of the 7th inning to defeat the Emery Spartans 9-8. Sophomore Emmy Butler drove in the game-tying run scoring Haizlee Hall followed by Brynn Anderson crossed home plate for the game-winning run.

With the win, Grantsville advances to the semifinal round where they will face the Morgan Trojans. The game is slated to start at 3 p.m.

Evening scores for baseball and softball state playoffs:

Tooele High's varsity softball team dropped a 10-0 game at the hands of the Desert Hills Thunder to trail their series 0-1 heading into tomorrow's remaining game(s). Game Two starts at 11 a.m. and Game Three, if necessary, will begin at 1 p.m.

Stansbury's softball fell 11-0 to the Bear River Bears to fall behind 0-1 in that series, which sets up a do-or-die Game Two tomorrow back at Bear River at 11 a.m. Game Three, if necessary, will start shortly at 1 p.m.

The Stallions baseball team held a lead (1-0 in first, 2-0 at top of fourth) throughout much of the first half of their Game One against the Desert Hills Thunder, until the Thunder stormed back and scored three-unanswered runs and went on to win 3-2. Game Two (11 a.m.) and, if necessary, Game Three (2 p.m.) will be held tomorrow on the Desert Hills baseball field.

Results from this morning and afternoon’s state baseball and softball games:

Grantsville’s softball team cruised to a 12-1 win over the North Sanpete Hawks Thursday morning during a third-round game at the Spanish Fork Softball Complex. They advance to the quarterfinals to play Emery tomorrow at 10 a.m.

Stansbury’s softball team was shutout 11-0 on the road, during Game One of its super regional game against the Bear River Bears. Game Two starts at 1 p.m. tomorrow on Bear River’s softball field and a potential Game Three will tee off at 3 p.m.

The Cowboys’ baseball team built on its third-inning 3-1 advantage at home, piling on 11 more runs at the bottom of the fourth to secure an 11-1 victory and take a 1-0 series in a best-of-three against the Delta Rabbits.

Game Two will also take place in Grantsville at 1 p.m. and a third and deciding game (if necessary) is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.

Tooele’s softball team and Stansbury baseball team will finish out the night, with their series-openers beginning at 7 p.m. Both clubs are facing the respective Desert Hills baseball/softball teams in St. George.
