Full Nightly Closures of Topanga Canyon Blvd (SR-27)
for Slope Repair

Motorists will be detoured to Malibu Canyon Road and Las Virgenes Road

The California Department of Transportation (CalTrans) announced full closures of Topanga Canyon Blvd. (SR-27) between Pacific Coast Highway (SR-1) and Grand View Dr. Near Jalan Jalan, Imports for an emergency project to repair and restore eroded slope embankments on TCB.

The full nightly closures will take place between 10:00pm - 5:00am from Monday, May 13 to Thursday, May 16

This year, the hillsides along Topanga Canyon Blvd. had multiple rock and debris slides onto the highway, triggering full closures of TCB for days.

All work is weather permitting and subject to change.

Signs will advise motorists to use US-101, Las Virgenes Road, and Malibu Canyon Road as an alternate route. Motorists should expect delays and are strongly advised to use alternate routes or avoid the area. The town of Topanga will remain open to motorists.

Drivers can check traffic conditions before they leave by visiting the Caltrans Quickmap.

Caltrans reminds drivers to be “Work Zone Alert” and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.”

Overnight Full Closures of Topanga Canyon Blvd (SR-27) for Slope Repair

Full overnight closures of Topanga Canyon Blvd (SR-27) between Pacific Coast Highway (SR-1) and Grand View Dr. near Jalan Jalan, Imports will take place from 10:00pm to 5:00am daily beginning Monday April 29 though Thursday May 2. CalTrans is closing TCB at night to repair and restore eroded slope embankments along the highway. This year, the hillsides along TCB had multiple rock and debris slides onto the highway, triggering full closures of TCB, sometimes for days.

Signs are currently posted advising motorists to use US-101, Las Virgenes Road and Malibu Canyon Road as alternate routes. Motorists should expect delays and are strongly advised to use alternate routes or avoid the area. The town of Topanga will remain open to motorists.

One-Way Traffic Control on Topanga Canyon Blvd (SR-27) for Maintenance Work

Delays Expected for Daytime Closure

TOPANGA – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announced a closure of Topanga Canyon Blvd. (SR-27) between Santa Maria Rd. and Hillside Dr. in the unincorporated community of Topanga. The reason for the closure is crews will be trimming overgrown trees and clearing brush along a two-mile stretch of SR-27.

The closure will take place between 10:00am to 3:00pm daily from Tuesday, April 23 to Friday, April 26. Crews will alternate closing the northbound and southbound lanes of Topanga Canyon Blvd. One-way traffic control measures will be in place for the public during the closure time.

Urgent CalTrans Alert! CALTRANS SCENIC HIGHWAY SLOPE REPAIR CLOSURES
Mike Dipsia, Caltrans' Man-In-The-Canyon, has verified Topanga Canyon Boulevard will be closed from Jalan Jalan Imports to Pacific Coast Highway from 10:00pm Monday April 15 to Friday April 19 at 5:00am. In the addition, the same section of Topanga Canyon Boulevard will be closed from Monday April 22nd at 10:00pm to Friday April 26 at 5:00am and Monday April 29th at 10:00pm to Friday May 3rd at 5:00am. Signs will be posted throughout Canyon byways notifying commuters of the closures and that Topanga Town Is Open! There will also be signs discouraging motorists from traveling up Fernwood Pacific and using Tuna Canyon in order to reach Pacific Coast Highway.
ADDITIONAL CALTRANS ROAD WORK!
On top of the previously mentioned ongoing emergency work, Mr. Dipsia, the aforementioned Caltrans Man-In-The-Canyon, tells us Caltrans will be "Pot Holing" -- digging pot-sized holes -- in order to locate gas lines in preparation for the future installation of Bio-Swale water filtering systems in various locations along Topanga Canyon Boulevard. This "pot holing" work will be done fromTuesday April 16 through Friday April 26 from 9:00am to 3:00pm daily. Most of this work will be done on the shoulder of TCB and should not affect traffic flow. In some circumstances one lane of Topanga Canyon Boulevard may be closed temporarily and traffic flow directed through alternating lanes.
Yes, the plethora of flashing signs giving out different messages is confusing. The Topanga Chamber of Commerce is urging Caltrans to make the signs as clear and uncontradictory as possible. They are asking CalTrans to make the messages clear, concise and correct. �

UPDATE: LA County Public Works will kept Topanga Canyon Blvd under one-way traffic control until 3:30 p.m. today from Old Topanga Canyon Rd to Grand View Dr. to give relief to rush-hour traffic. has issued an emergency permit for LADPW to work after 10 p.m. in the same closure area under one-way traffic control. Their goal is to be done by 6 a.m. tomorrow morning. This is emergency work for a water leak, possibly a water main.

REMINDER – the contractor will also be closing Topanga Canyon Blvd from PCH to Grandview Dr TONIGHT from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. as planned.

‪Topanga Canyon Blvd is under one-way traffic control until at least 6 p.m. from Old Topanga Canyon Rd to Grand View Dr due to roadway excavation to look for source of a water leak, possibly broken water main. Note that the closure time is subject to change. ‬
