Heartland Gem Hunter Hunting the Glaciated Region of Kansas since 2011

For comparison: Chapman geodes vs Brown county geodes.

Did you know geodes can be found in at least a few counties of the GRK? So far, I've discovered geode bearing layers in the hills of Pottawatomie, Jackson, Nemaha, and Marshall county. Most are lesser quality, but on occasion we find some with hematite covered druse (black).

Cut videos all day. More to come.

Remember the black husk chalcedony (chert) nodule I dug from a limestone gravel road/glacial washout a couple weeks ago? I think I need to go deeper with the cut and translucency should open up. Will the inclusions continue deep into the translucent core? This could become a bit more special.

A few cuts from yesterday. I'll have several more posted later today. We'll start polishing next weekend.

My phone kept overheating today. That was the issue. Now I remember why last year's FB live big agate cutting event went awry. Ugh lol I'll get it together.

I've added more big stones not in video. Two large unique shape bauxites, amygdaloidal basalt, and remember the approximate 30 lb stone I considered excavating from the road? I've got a small version of that material and I'll show you exactly why I wanted to dig that big stone.

Dog Days cut & polish today!

We're using the garden as the background for today's C & P party. Two saws, two alternative polishing methods, several pounds of agate varieties from Kansas and Missouri (native & erratics), oddballs, geodes, and more. All but the Missouri lace are personal finds.
A full C & P video will be posted plus a short FB live (1:00 pm CT) C & P with a couple special LSA's. We're not professionals, but we get good results with lesser equipment.
Missouri lace provided by Dustin Allmon and Gwynn Mitchell-Shelby.

This September, I will recommence guiding services, focusing on private hunts at a fixed rate of $100. For current conditions and location details, please message me. Prior experience with Lake Superior agate picking is beneficial but not mandatory. Our excursions will involve traversing 6 to 8 miles of semi-rough terrain. As I primarily cater to out-of-town clients, I ensure we avoid areas heavily frequented by other hunters, leveraging my extensive network to identify untouched spots. I engage in regular communication with peers to stay informed about recent hunts and weather conditions. While we occasionally add new followers, especially during summer, I must clarify that my services normally are not complimentary. My expertise and commitment to conservation efforts justify my fees. Detractors may argue that rocks should be freely accessible, but they fail to recognize the value of my guidance and conservation efforts. State laws governing rock collecting on roads will be respected. My services offer direct access to deposits throughout the Glaciated Region of Kansas. For updates on our finds, please refer to my albums and videos. My rates are competitive with other guide services in Kansas, offering unique opportunities in the region.

Stones for cutting and polishing this Sunday. I have a couple LSA beauties I'll be adding as well.
I'm not 100% we'll go Facebook live. We'll see what we get set up. If we do go live, it will be somewhere around noon to 3:00 pm.
Jeffrey and I will be cutting and polishing several stones. A couple different methods. We'll l select specific stones for the video. Some of these stones will be displayed already cut. We will be doing some exploratory cuts on oddball stones as well. This is how we learn. It. Makes identification in the field much easier.
