For small fleet operators, fuel cards have traditionally come with plenty of hoops to jump through, from vehicle minimums to lengthy approval processes.

That's why expansion into the U.S. is worth keeping an eye on. The Canadian company says its digital fuel card platform is designed specifically for small and midsize businesses, with no vehicle minimums and a mobile-first approach to fuel and expense management.

As more small fleets look for tools that simplify administration and improve spending visibility, this is a space that continues to evolve.

The fleets getting the most done right now are not always the biggest. They’re the most adaptable.

Small fleet leaders have become masters of balancing uptime, driver needs, maintenance, compliance, budgeting, and customer expectations all at once. And in many cases, they’re doing it without large back-office support.

Automotive Service Professionals Month is getting a new home. The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) announced that beginning in 2026-2027, Automotive Service Professionals Month will move from June to April and October to align with Spring and Fall Car Care Months.

For fleet operators, the change creates additional opportunities to recognize the technicians who keep vehicles safe, reliable, and on the road while connecting that recognition to broader vehicle maintenance and safety campaigns.

ASE will continue to observe Automotive Service Professionals Month this June before the transition begins.

A disaster declaration can decide whether your fleet gets help fast… or waits months. Most people hear “federal disaster declared” and think the process starts in D.C. It doesn’t.

It starts with local damage assessments, documentation, and whether critical infrastructure actually gets reported correctly in those first few days.

For fleet leaders, that can impact everything from reimbursement eligibility to facility repairs and recovery timelines.

If you’ve spent enough time running a small fleet, you start realizing fleet problems are never just fleet problems. A vehicle goes down, and suddenly it affects the entire day. Customers are waiting. Schedules get shuffled. Drivers get frustrated. The office starts fielding calls. Everyone feels it.

That’s probably why so many small business owners think about their fleet constantly, even when they’re technically wearing ten other hats.

This article really captures how connected fleet has become to the health of the entire business, especially for smaller operations where there’s very little margin for disruption.
