🎬 MISSISSIPPI: THE UNSUNG FILM DESTINATION. 🎥✨

At the 2026 Jxn Film Festival Black Tie & Awards Gala, Chelle B caught up with Charles Box, the Ezell Sulton People’s Choice Winner and Certificate of Achievement Honorable Mention for Best Feature honoree for Harmless.

From being tapped by a filmmaker friend to jump aboard the project, to the similarities and differences in creating shorts, features, documentaries and beyond, Charles shared some of the journey behind bringing Harmless to life.

And when the conversation turned to Mississippi as a destination for filmmakers, Chelle B put it perfectly:

🎤 “Mississippi is sort of like that unsung destination for filmmakers.”

Charles agreed, calling Mississippi a “hidden gem”—and he’s putting action behind those words. 💎🎬 Two of his projects have already been brought to Mississippi, with plans to bring a THIRD!

We LOVE hearing that! More stories. More productions. More opportunities. More filmmaking right here in Mississippi. 🙌🏾🎥

Congratulations again to Charles Box and the entire Harmless team! 🏆

🎬 SIX YEARS. COUNTLESS CREATIVES. REAL GROWTH. 🐅🎥

At the Jxn Film Festival Black Tie & Awards Gala, Chelle B caught up with the visionary behind it all—Founder & CEO Maximus Wright—to talk about what six years of the Jxn Film Festival has truly produced.

And beyond the awards, it’s the GROWTH that hits different.

“To see them grow, it’s like watching your kids grow.” —Maximus Wright

Some filmmakers and creatives may not have taken home the win in years past—but they kept creating, kept developing, kept coming back…and now, they’re WINNING. 🏆 That’s what this festival is about.

Maximus also gave major flowers to his fellow SOARpreneurs Esther Young and Dr. Candice Love Jackson, calling them the “brain, muscle and heart” of the Jxn Film Festival and the “secret sauce” that helps make it all happen. He even showed Chelle B some love for joining this incredible team over the past few years as the festival’s Correspondent & Voice. 🥹🎙️🐅

And when you’ve created a platform where filmmakers, screenwriters, actors, actresses, directors and other creatives can come back with SUCCESS STORIES?

“It’s incredibly humbling.” —Maximus Wright

But WAIT…Maximus dropped a little EXCLUSIVE on us too. 👀🎬 The 2027 Jxn Film Festival is already looking toward a galaxy far, far away as it prepares to center next year’s edition around the 50th Anniversary of Star Wars. 🌌

Six years down…and the story is STILL being written. 🎬🐅

🏆🎬 FROM JXN FILM FESTIVAL MULTI-AWARD WINNER… TO EMMY AWARD WINNER!

Now THAT’S an update worth catching up on! 🙌🏾

Ahead of the 2026 JXN Film Festival Black Tie & Awards Gala, Chelle B caught up with the incredibly talented Phillip C. Washington during the pre-show—and there was PLENTY to talk about.

A familiar face to the Jxn Film Festival family and a multi-award winner on our own stage, Phillip returned this year with a pretty major new title attached to his name: EMMY AWARD WINNER! 🏆

The two chatted about what Phillip has been up to since JFF 2025, the work and journey that led to that incredible Emmy recognition, and what life has looked like since adding one of television’s most prestigious honors to his growing list of accomplishments.

But THIS conversation? 👀 Consider it only Part One.

“Stay tuned because THIS chat with Emmy Award-Winning Phillip C. Washington is how it started… BUT see how it went. 👀😂 More to come in our post-interview after the gala wrapped. Always fun times catching up with this talented soul.” ~Chelle B, JXN Film Festival Correspondent @ & Announcer

🎥 Press play for the PRE-GALA catch-up… and keep those eyes peeled because Phillip and Chelle B weren’t quite finished talking! 🐅👀

How it started: PRE-GALA.
How it went: COMING NEXT. 🎬🔥

🎬🏆 DOUBLE THE PROJECTS. DOUBLE THE AWARDS. DOUBLE THE IMPACT.

"Lohn should add lyricist to his repertoire, because he has bars. I love his spill on creativity staying alive and Mississippi filmmakers multiplying." 🎤🔥 — Chelle B, Jxn Film Festival Correspondent & Announcer

Those words weren't just memorable—they're a reflection of who Lohn Lenoir is as a storyteller and creative visionary.

What makes this achievement even more impressive is that these weren't two awards for the same film. Lohn earned Best Screenplay (Short) for Beleaguered and Best Director for Bennetts: A Family Dilemma—a testament to both the strength of his writing and the excellence of his directing.

At the JXN Film Festival, we're proud to celebrate creatives who continue raising the bar while inspiring the next generation of Mississippi filmmakers. And judging by Lohn's trajectory, this is only the beginning.

The only thing Beleaguered about Lohn Lenoir is the title of one award-winning film... because his future is looking anything but. 🚀🎬

Congratulations again, Lohn! We can't wait to see where your creativity takes you next.

Some stories are written... and some are lived before they're ever placed on paper. 🎬✨

On the red carpet at the 2026 JXN Film Festival Black Tie & Awards Gala, Jxn Film Festival Correspondent & Announcer Chelle B caught up with Felicia Brookins , recipient of the 2026 Ezell Sulton People's Choice Award, to discuss her powerful screenplay, Slipping into Goodbye: A Mother's Journey Within Dementia.

"I had the honor of catching up with Felicia Brookins, recipient of the 2026 Ezell Sulton People's Choice Award, to talk about her powerful screenplay, Slipping into Goodbye: A Mother's Journey Within Dementia." – Chelle B, JXN Film Festival Correspondent & Announcer

One of the moments that resonated with us most came when Felicia shared the words that carried her through every moment of doubt:

"I didn't have gaps, I just needed to believe."

Those words, spoken by Maximus Wright, became the encouragement she needed to keep writing, keep believing and ultimately embrace what she had become—a screenwriter.

And after crossing that finish line and being chosen by THE PEOPLE, there was only one thing left to say...

"Mom, We Did It!" ❤️– Author Felicia Brookins

Congratulations again, Felicia. Your journey is a beautiful reminder that belief has the power to transform purpose into legacy. We have no doubt your mother would be incredibly proud.

🎬 From Jackson to "Hollyhood" … and still pouring into home. 🌟

One of the most memorable moments of the 6th Annual Jxn Film Festival Black Tie & Awards Gala was celebrating actor Calvin “Hollywood” Williams, recipient of the festival’s inaugural Community Champion Award.

A proud Jackson native, Calvin has built an impressive career working alongside some of the entertainment industry’s biggest names. Yet, his commitment to giving back and creating opportunities here at home is just as inspiring as his work on screen. His latest project, 2 Whole Ones and Two Half Ones, which just wrapped, filmed right here in Jackson, MS, further showcasing the incredible talent and growing momentum of Mississippi’s film industry.

During his conversation with Chelle B on the red carpet, Calvin reflected on the journey that brought him here and shared words of encouragement from his late father that continue to resonate: “You’re too close now to quit.”

Congratulations once again to Calvin “Hollyhood” Williams on becoming the first-ever recipient of the Jxn Film Festival’s Community Champion Award—a well-deserved honor recognizing not only his accomplishments in entertainment but his unwavering commitment to uplifting his community.
