CITY OF TOWNSEND ANNOUNCEMENT
July 7, 2026

Effective immediately, the City of Townsend will no longer maintain or operate the property at 203 Broadway as a City park (Massa Park). The proposed lease for continued City use, control, and maintenance of the property was declined, and the City will no longer water, mow, improve, or provide services for the parcel.

10th Annual Broadwater County-Wide Yard Sale On July 18, 2026 from 9:00am to 3:00pm.

Join us for the Annual County-Wide Yard Sales. We will provide maps to all of the Yard/Garage sales. FREE printed maps will be available by July 15 at the Reading Leaves Bookstore and the Birds Nest in Townsend. The maps will be available for download by July 13 at https://mt43news.com/YardSaleMaps. We will also have a Google Earth Map available for download.

Backyards of Broadwater is coming up on Saturday, July 25 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

This self‑guided yard and garden tour stretches from Townsend to south of Toston and features a mix of new gardens and returning favorites. We also have a special educational presentation on the tour this year. Bryan Flynn will discuss growing fruit in Montana with challenging weather and soil conditions.

Tickets go on sale July 1:

Kids 12 and under: Free

Online tickets can be purchased HERE. In‑person tickets will be available in Townsend at the Extension Office, Townsend Hardware, and Goosebay Glass; in Helena at Chadwick’s Nursery and Birds & Beasley’s; and in Three Forks at The Shoppe.

Proceeds from the event support community horticulture projects. Past beneficiaries includes the Townsend Tree Board, Townsend Garden Club & Study and gardening programs at Townsend Schools.
