Small fire causes little damage to Wheels display

Year by year, the Wheels Across the Prairie Heritage Center continues to make notable improvements on an ever-growing campus.
Last Thursday afternoon, it suffered a rare setback when a fire broke out beneath the caboose attraction. There was more smoke than fire, and the caboose took on only minor damage, but nonetheless the ordeal was a scary one for those close to the museum who happened to be on museum grounds at the time.
“We’ve been blessed with not having any major problems of any kind,” said Museum volunteer Norine Hanson.
That is until Thursday.
“We didn’t need that excitement today,” said Museum Director Jon Wendorff, who was showing visitors around at the time. “I'm just glad we caught it when we did. It could’ve been worse. Accidents happen.”
Other than some smoke in Wendorff’s lungs, there were no injuries reported.

Law enforcement searched for about one hour on the south side of town before taking a man considered armed and dangerous into custody.
Police shut down about a two-block area of Front St. in front of the Tracy Alliance Church while the search took place. The suspect was taken into custody about 5:47 p.m. The church was briefly turned into an incident command area.
The TPD had issued a “shelter in place” warning to Tracy residents at 4:40 p.m.
Numerous law enforcement agencies were on site, including the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department and Minnesota State Patrol.
See this week’s paper for further details.

This framed print hangs in my office, a gift from Per. It is a copy of the very first Tracy Area Headlight Herald we published as business owners. Today we celebrate 6 years of business ownership - no April fools joke here. We also launched a new website today and have a new printer and publication date this week. It has been a CRAZY ride, full of ups and downs, but we are so blessed to continue to serve the Tracy area as your source for local news and advertising. There are days we joke about “let’s buy a newspaper!” There are days that business ownership can feel daunting. But there are more days of pure joy that we get to do what we love in this amazing community. Thank you so much for your support these last 6 years. We look forward to many more to come!

To our readers:
We have made it back to Tracy with the papers. Newsstands in town are delivered and ready for pick up. However, mail delivery may be a day late as we were late making it to the post office. Newsstands and post offices outside of Tracy will not be delivered until this afternoon. We appreciate your understanding.
