TMB softball team draws No. 2 BOLD in first round

The Panther softball team will open the Section 3A Tournament against BOLD at 3 p.m. on Tuesday in Olivia as the No. 7 seed. TMB is the No. 7 seed in the south sub-section, while BOLD is the No. 2 seed. TMB fell to BOLD 18-1 on May 9.
The Panthers won their last three regular-season games of the season.
A win against the Warriors (13-5) would pit TMB (11-9) against either Edgerton/SWC or RTR later than day.

SUV rear-ends bus in Redwood County

An SUV rear-ended a school bus loaded with more than 20 people on CSAH 7, just south of 270th St. in Vail Township, outside of Wabasso, about 7:30 a.m. on April 22.
According to the Redwood County Sheriff’s Office, a 2006 Chevy Tahoe driven by a 16-year-old girl from Vesta hit the 4.0 School Services bus from behind. The bus was being driven by 40-year-old Christina Flesner of Tracy.
The driver of the SUV was transported to a local hospital; two or maybe three children on the bus were transported to treat minor inuries as well by a private party, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The Redwood County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by MN State Patrol, Wabasso Fire Department, Wabasso Ambulance and CentraCare Ambulance.

Swedzinski won't seek re-election

Citing a desire to spend more time with his family and return to a more private life, State Representative Chris Swedzinski (R-Ghent) announced Saturday that he will not be seeking reelection to the Minnesota House of Representatives at the conclusion of his current term.
Swedzinski has been an advocate for rural Minnesota throughout his tenure, championing issues related to agriculture, energy policy and tax relief. As a senior member of the House, he has served in various leadership roles, always prioritizing the unique needs of the farmers, small business owners, and families of Lyon, Redwood, Lac qui Parle, Yellow Medicine, and Chippewa counties.
