Norm had a lifelong love of the Cherry Queen pageant. He even MC’d it a few times and dated a few of the queens back in the day. He knew this lovely lady through his work and couldn’t help himself when he saw the cutout. She just laughed when I showed her the photo and said it was fine to post on Facebook

Tomorrow (Weds) is his funeral at 10:30am. Funeral Home and church will stream it. I will put a link in comments below

Thursday’s Celebration of Life will likely be postponed due to weather. That was only going to be people filing by to pay their respects, speeches like we imagined. The city fears too many would gather if there were speeches

Also, this is a letter to the editor written by someone who worked with him in this city. Wonderful tribute

Ok if you don't listen to any other podcasts I've posted, listen to this one. Norm was having a great time with Brian Narmore and Diane DeHaven. Sorry Brian, only found these photos of Diane and Norm from a different day. Poor Normie, he was such a pro and wanted the show to be, but didn’t let broadcasting from our house with me talking off mic, on the phone in the background, etc get in the way of his good humor. Kinda chaotic, kinda nuts but pure Norm and so much fun to listen to. He ended the show on such a high note. This may be it for my postings of podcasts. RIP Norm. Thanks for the good times.

I keep listening to these and finding them comforting. So I share hoping the same for you. This one is Brian, Norm and I.
We had just visited Bob Sika and his wife at Centerpointe so we do talk about Jamaica quite a bit. Also, Norm talks in this segment about trying out for the Timberwolves like someone spoke of yesterday on Christal's show. Anyway, the photos are taken around the time of the broadcast, Norm with the Sika's at Centerpointe, Norm's brother Ken, Steph and Norm at the NMC Barbecue.

More audio, this one from 4-25-16. Norm, Diane DeHaven and Brian Narmore. The photo was taken that day. I made a hat for Diane. And she is eating the cheese curds they talk about. Lots of fun!

Been browsing through old audio of The Norm Jones Show and found this one with Bill Froehlich and his former wife as guests in the first hour. I’ll never forget seeing Bill driving up with Jessica in full queen regalia. Norm commented “She does know this is radio, right?” The funny chemistry between Bill and Norm is evident. This was about four months after The Afternoon Drive was cancelled.
In the second hour Norm talks about some of the businesses he owned. This was back in 2016 and President Trump was Candidate Trump. Norm wanted me to be his cohost-for lack of anyone available that day-but I cringe now when I hear myself. Still, this is classic Norm Jones

Ok friends--obviously winter would like to make an earlier appearance this year. Will we have accumulations overnight? Probably not however, this rain turning to snow might give the opportunity for ninja ice to sneak out and ruin your morning commute. Use caution tomorrow!! Leave a little extra time, and bring an extra pocket full of patience.

There are 2.7 MILLION MILES of crude, natural gas etc of under ground pipeline the USA. You're going to need get a bigger yard sign than "line 5" "but we just care about our lakes" Are people in Wisconsin, Illinois and Canada putting up signs? Curious. I can NOT believe the MI DEQ or the federal EPA isn't watching this. And no sign makes it easier to mow.

I just watched the Norm Jones Show for the first time and I was thrilled. I thought Norm was an old guy, but he certainly seemed young and virile when siting there beside my old friend Herb Lemcool. The show was very local in character. It's been a long time since I had LSD, but it brought back flashbacks of my prior (and present) interest in the development of Traverse City. Norm has a great sense of humor. He sat there with a straight face and asked "Is there still time for people to get involved in this East – West Corridor Transportation Study?" Why was that joke so funny? Let me put that question into perspective. I was Supervisor of East Bay Township from 1980 to 1992. That East - West issue was hot during that period. Before taking office, in the late summer of 1980, I went around and got all the studies to find out what work had been done on planning, zoning, utilities and transportation. There was a comprehensive study of 1964 that stated that the need for an East/West corridor was "imminent". It was echoed again in the 2020 study of the 70s, and it was a hot issue in 1980. It was truly a planner's delight. So every three or four years we public office holders would get cornered for an opinion about what should happen with the "bypass" which the non-project was currently being called. We would all have some catharsis as we got spanked, and then we would hire some planners to do a study. While the study was being done, hopefully several years, the heat would be off until the study was done, and then the cycle would start all over again. While I was out of office at the turn of the millennium, but I stayed active and aware of the planning efforts. The Grand Vision was a planning effort that sprang out of the idea of the imminent need for another east/west corridor -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2mlqSREKIg . This is the climax of a Grand Traverse area planning project. Everybody went home from this event and felt that they had really contributed. At the Grand Vision website it was stated that the volunteers are the backbone of this planning process. In fact the backbone was a $5 million federal grant for preliminary engineering of the Boardman River bridge. But wait, you can't do the engineering before you know where the bridge will go so that needs to be decided. But wait, you can't decide where the bridge will go before you know where the traffic will go and that depends future development. That's why you needed to hire the top planners in the country. They of course had to learn what the people really want. So here we go again ten years later. I truly admire Herb's tenacity. He has more patience than I. By contrast, I went to Shanghai in the year 2000 and saw a freeway, straight as an arrow, straight through the center of Shanghai. I spoke with an Italian vendor who was familiar with that project. He said that this freeway had been conceived and built in a five year period -- no pain in the ass public hearings I bet. It looked like somebody drew a line on a map with a ruler and said here it is. Deal with it. I was a primary organizer and former chairman of BATA. We put that together with a county, a city, and about eight or nine townships. It started with all grant money and we died back when the initial grant money dried up. It had proven itself in the interim and survived. I was happy that BATA was mentioned in your talk, as well as automated vehicles. It is all coming together in Guiyang, where I spend nine or ten months a year. That is another story. Norm Jones, you've done a nice job here.
Are you still doing a morning show on the radio?
sending info on tomorrows segment for you it won't let me post page two on the same post so I will be sending two.
