PHOTO FRIDAY!

Here's another icy shoreline photo. This one is at the Point Betsie Lighthouse. One of the coolest things about winter in this region is that the shoreline of the big lake is always changing. This also means that it can be unstable. Be careful out there if you find icy patches along the shoreline. Ice will become increasingly unstable in the coming weeks.

PHOTO FRIDAY! The power of nature is just astounding! This morning, the southern portion of West Bay froze for the first time this winter. Though there hasn't been much ice on the water this year, there has been so much ice building up on the Open Space railings that some portions have broken away from their concrete footers'. Yesterday, a strong northern wind created spectacular ice formations and crashing waves.

The Future of Paddlesports on the Ottaway (Boardman) River

Do you share our love for the Ottaway River (Boardman)? Well, then make sure to tune in to our LIVE broadcast of "The Future of Paddlesports on the Boardman River" hosted by Interlochen Public Radio and Traverse City Tourism.

Official Event Description:
"With Brown Bridge, Boardman, and Sabin dams removed, it's much easier to paddle or float the Boardman. But others, like sport anglers, are also enjoying the new, freely flowing river. Friction between user groups has increased and paddling sports have become a concern.

How these diverse user groups can amicably share the reborn river will be the topic of a community forum sponsored by the Brook Trout Coalition, Interlochen Public Radio, and Traverse City Tourism.

Panel members will include Steve Largent, Boardman River Program Director for the Grand Traverse Conservation District; Troy Daily, the owner of Paddle for Pints and Kayak, Bike and Brew; Lt. Joe Molnar, DNR commander of conservation officers in Traverse City; and Patrick Ertel of the DNR’s Natural Rivers Program. The program will be moderated by Peter Payette, the executive director of Interlochen Public Radio."
