📍 Three Mile Rd (Hammond → South Airport) – Closed to thru traffic. Detour via Hammond, Garfield, or South Airport.
📍 Townline Rd (Hammond → South Airport) – Closed to thru traffic. Local access only, flaggers on site.

🎉🚦 Friday, August 1 – The Pre-Weekend Pinch

Happy Friday, Traverse City!
We’ve made it to the edge of the weekend—and so has everyone else trying to turn left on South Airport.

Here’s what you’re up against this morning:
📍 South Airport → Usual eastbound crawl from Garfield to 3 Mile
📍 Division & 14th → Slowdowns likely with summer surge
📍 Beach Traffic → Expect heavy volume on US-31 near Clinch Park, Bryant Park, and anywhere with water access
📍 US-31 Eastbound (3–5 PM) → Follower report: The East Bay bottleneck from Three Mile to Holiday Hills is a 30-minute crawl. If you’re heading out during peak, pack patience and maybe a podcast.
📍 Tourist Left Turns → Spotted everywhere, often without warning. Proceed with caution and deep breathing.

🌤️ Weather: Classic summer vibes—sunny, warm, and just hazy enough from wildfire smoke to remind you we live in interesting times.

🚧 ICYMI: Major road closures kick off next week—Three Mile, Townline, Clark, J Maddy Parkway, and more. Hit our pinned post for detour details and a head start on your backup plan.

💡 Locals Know:
• Grocery run? Go early.
• Bayshore cruise? Pack snacks.
• Driving downtown? Don’t. Unless you enjoy chaos with scenic views.

⚠️ Reminder:
“Brake for birds. And tourists. And random mid-block U-turns.”

🚗🔥 Thursday, July 31 – Traverse City’s Greatest Hits: Backup Edition

Good morning, TC!
Today’s forecast: smoky skies, heavy humidity, and a 97% chance you’ll be stuck behind someone trying to make a left turn at the worst possible time.

📍South Airport Rd:
If you’re heading eastbound anytime between 7:30 and 9:30 AM, just know you’ll be crawling from Garfield to 3 Mile like you’re in a retirement parade. Historically, this stretch backs up over a mile during peak hours—and that’s on a good day.

📍M-22/M-72 Intersection:
Ah yes, the classic slow jam. Whether you’re coming from Greilickville or Elmwood Twp, this is where traffic goes to think about its life choices. Expect brake lights from Hilltop to Cherry Bend, especially as folks head north toward Leelanau or west to Long Lake.

🧠 Reminder:
These aren’t detours—they’re TC traditions. So leave early, sip something cold, and mentally prepare for someone to brake for a squirrel… or nothing.

☁️💦 Sticky Stops & Summer Slowdowns – TC Traffic Update

Good humid morning, Traverse City! The skies are gray, the air feels like soup, and your AC is doing overtime—but don’t sweat it too hard (yet). Here’s what you need to know before you brave the roads:

🛑 NEW STOP SIGN DROPS TOMORROW
At Pine & W. Front, eastbound drivers will need to stop as part of the Two-Way Street Pilot Project—because nothing says “summer fun” like surprise stop signs and mildly confused locals.

So if you’re rolling through with windows down and your playlist on full blast, just remember:
Cloudy skies = moody vibes ☁️
High humidity = sweaty seats 💦
New stop signs = unexpected test of your reflexes 🚦

📆 Installation happens Wednesday, July 31—but you’ll probably see people testing their brakes early. Be kind. We’re all just trying not to melt.

🚦New Stop Sign Alert!
Heads up, Traverse City: A new stop sign is being added at Pine & W. Front to complete a shiny new three-way stop. That’s right—because two just wasn’t awkward enough.

💡 So if you’re driving eastbound on Front and wondering why Karen just brake-checked you into next Tuesday, it’s probably the new sign. Or Karen. But mostly the sign.

📅 Goes live Wednesday, July 30. Expect confusion, hesitation, and at least one guy pretending the sign doesn’t exist.

📍Pilot Project, not pilot episode—but still full of drama.

Intersection Modification - Three-Way Stop

Please be aware that a modification is being rolled out for the Two-Way Street Pilot Project: a stop sign is being added for eastbound traffic at the intersection of Pine Street and W. Front Street, creating a three-way stop. This change is aimed at improving safety and traffic flow at a key crossing within the pilot area.

The modification is scheduled to be installed on Wednesday, July 30th.

07/29/2025

Another warm sunny day and nothing to report.

Michigan Left… or just Wrong?
📍 Intersection of US-31 & South Airport
🎤 “Only in Michigan can you be legally required to go right to go left. Congrats, you just did geometry while driving.”

Nothing to report this morning. Happy Monday everyone, stay safe.
