Because of the storm along the east coast of the US it is very windy and even snowing. Hopefully all of you are warm and well.

A few weeks ago we played a song from the Philadelphia German Brass Band and this week we pulled out an LP from Die Heimatklänge. You’ll hear a song on this Sunday’s program.
It is still 9/11 in the United States. Today, on the 20th anniversary, we remember all the people that lost their lives and the heroes that day and the days to follow. Since we usually had our German Heritage Festival around this time, Ted and I always took the entertainers to New York and the World Trade Center. Marianne & Michael with Band was the last group that went up the World Trade Center only 3 days before it came down. This picture was taken from the New Jersey side. We will also remember 9/11 with a special song during the radio show on Sunday morning.

This is a picture from a few years ago, when my son Ralph and I were in Germany. The castle behind us is in Brühl, where Ted and I grew up. Besides the park being totally flooded at least nobody lost their life in Brühl during the terrible flood in Germany. Some places in the area, like along the Ahr, Bad Münstereifel, etc. lost a lot, not only people, but also houses and streets. Hopefully the next rain does not cause more devastation. Good luck to everybody.
Recently we came across an old ticket from the FIFA World Cup in 1994. When Ted, who was a soccer fan, was asked by someone if he would like to fly with him to the opening game on June 17 in Chicago, the person didn't have to ask twice. Germany won that game against Bolivia 1-0. The game Ted, Ralph with friends and I attended at the Giants Stadium in New Jersey Germany lost, but we still have nice memories.
Vor Kurzem haben wir noch eine alte Eintrittskarte von der Fussball Weltmeisterschaft in 1994 gefunden. Ted hatte die Gelegenheit mit einem Bekannten zu dem Eröffnungsspiel Deutschland - Bolivien in Chicago zu fliegen. Das Spiel gewann Deutschland 1-0, doch leider verloren sie das Spiel im Giants Stadium in New Jersey , zu dem viele Personen von dieser Gegend Karten hatten. Es ist trotzdem eine schöne Erinnerung.

This picture goes back quite a few years, but it is already 11 years since Ted left us on May 30, 2010. He spend a lot of time trying to keep our German Heritage alive. RIP.

In Germany they have a 2 day Holiday this weekend. It is Pfingsten (Pentecost). They even have some flowers that are blooming right now named after Pfingsten. They are called Pfingstrosen (translated Pentecostroses).

I came across this poster recently. Maybe someone still remembers this Oktoberfest at the Trenton State Fair Grounds on October 8, 1979. Not only did Jack Titz and the German Brass Band play that day, but there were also Volkdances and Schuhplatter. Your Host was Ted Hierl of radio station WTTM. The admission was only $2.00 and for members of any German Club $1.00.

Germany celebrates today "Tag der Deutschen Einheit". After visiting Berlin while the Wall was still standing, we had the chance to see the united city in 2009 again. What great memories. In Deutschland feiert man heute den "Tag der Deutschen Einheit". Nachdem wir Berlin besuchten als die Mauer noch stand, konnten wir zum Glück die Stadt nochmals vereint sehen.
The German Heritage Festival at the Garden State and later PNC Bank Arts Center was held each year on the 2nd Sunday in September, which would be today. Ted was the Chairman for over 20 years, and we had so many outstanding entertainers here in New Jersey we probably nowhere in the USA from 1974 till 2007. We played songs from some of them on the radio show today and will continue next week.
Am 2. Sonntag im September, der heute ist, fand immer das German Heritage Festival im Garden State und später PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel NJ statt. Dort traten so viele berühmte Künstler wie wahrscheinlich nirgendwo anders in den USA auf. In der heutigen Radiosendung brachten wir Lieder von diesen Entertainers und bringen weitere Melodien, wozu heute keine Zeit war, nächsten Sonntag.
