We are back from Tucson, Arizona where I was the guest arranger/composer and conductor for the 50th Anniversary celebration concert of the Tucson Flute Club. Our visit was a wonderful experience! The choir of 51 flutists sounded great and played superbly. The concert consisted of only my arrangements/compositions, which was a special treat. The choir should be extremely proud of an exceptional performance! It was a standing room only crowd with over 400 people in the audience. Flutists flew in from Florida, Michigan, Oregon and other places to participate. We were there for an entire week of music and seeing wonderful Tucson. Everyone was so nice, friendly and happy. Our hosts, Jerry and Bette Ervin could not have been more gracious. Sandy Schwoebel, TFC President, and all who helped did an absolute terrific job of bringing the event to life. It was truly a very memorable occasion. A shout out to the entire Tucson Flute Club for a wonderful start to your celebration year and a great concert! I hope that video links from the concert will soon be available. Stay tuned! 🎶

This message is for anyone who may have purchased one of my newest publications "Wayfaring Stranger" for the expandable flute choir.

Wayfaring Stranger (Version 1)
A question may arise from the flutist playing "C" Flute (Part 4) in measure 15 on the upbeat of the 4th count. The C# written is correct even though there is a "C" natural in the melody on part 1. This section of the song comes with an A7 chord as the harmony. The given melody note is a "C" natural, which is a flatted 3rd to the chord and doesn't appear to fit. Since we don't want to change the melody note or the chord, one needs to use the "C#" and the "C" natural at the same time. Both notes will work together as long as there is distance between them and the 7th of the chord (G Natural) is included in the harmony between these two notes. Some may refer to this "C#" as a "Ricky note". It is really the technique to voice the chord when the melody note does not seem to fit with the harmony.

It was wonderful practicing with the Centre Park Flute Choir yesterday in Reading, PA. Thank you to Virginia Suhulze-Johnson for forming this wonderful ensemble. I had an opportunity to play through all three movements of my composition "Southwestern Sketches", which I am writing for the 50th Anniversary of the Tucson Flute Club taking place in March of 2020. I will be there as their guest to premier the composition.

New Publications - July 2019

We have five new publications in the process of being released over the next few months. Since the cost of printing has risen so much we are adding a new feature to our expandable flute choir arrangements and compositions. There is going to be a small/modest price increase to these publications. However, these new titles will come with publisher permission to copy parts for the person or organization purchasing the title. Additionally, the scores may be reproduced/copied on a limited basis to present to judges for use at a festival or solo and ensemble competition. Look for these new publications in the near future. The first arrangement soon to be released is called "Salute To The USA". This is a medley of "Yankee Doodle", "America (My Country 'Tis of Thee), "Battle Hymn of the Republic" and George M. Cohan's "You're A Grand Old Flag". Ignite the fire of enthusiasm in your concert hall with this sweeping medley of beloved tunes that will encourage and sustain a sense of national pride.
