🚨BLACK BEAR SIGHTINGS – PLEASE READ🚨

There have been black bear sightings in Ewing over the weekend. If you see a bear, move to a safe location. If you believe there is an immediate danger call 9-1-1, otherwise call 609-882-1313 so we can be aware of its location.

As warmer weather returns, black bears are emerging from their winter dens and actively searching for food. Please take precautions and follow these important guidelines from New Jersey Fish & Wildlife to reduce the risk of bear encounters:

✅ DO NOT feed bears – It’s illegal and carries a fine of up to $1,000
✅ Use certified bear-resistant garbage cans, or store trash in secure locations
✅ Wash garbage containers with disinfectant to remove odors
✅ Put garbage out the morning of pickup, not the night before
✅ Avoid feeding birds when bears are active (April 1 – December 1)
✅ Clean grills after each use and store them securely
✅ Remove pet food, fallen fruit/nuts, and compost items that attract bears
✅ Install electric fencing to protect crops, livestock, and beehives

📞 If you witness bear damage or aggressive behavior, call your local police department or NJ Fish & Wildlife at 1-877-WARN-DEP (1-877-927-6337).
