It may be hard for service members in their 20s to contemplate this now…but the people you are serving with now will be in your life forever. Tonight I reunited with my old friend after 30 years and laughed so hard the rest of the bar thought we may vomit on the floor (we didn’t). Just remember that even if you only serve for 4 years, you’ll have lifetime friends. He reminded me of stories I have long forgotten. “Get me a bird, I’m outta here!” He also reminded me at one point the two of us (and may others) were once the Tip of the Spear. Sf Marines.

One bummer thing the newer arty folks will never get to do is burn powder increments. Nothing better than being a Lt and getting preached to at school about the proper way to do it and then meet your Battery Gunny who’s says “yeah let me show you how we do it in the fleet” and the next thing you know the high back Hummer canvas is gone.
