B-Cubed Bakery in Ypsilanti is rewriting what a neighborhood bakery can be, one freshly milled loaf at a time.

Owner Ben turned a lifelong love of bread into a full-time pursuit, trading a career in software engineering for professional training at the Great Lakes Culinary Institute in Traverse City before honing his craft on the night bread shift at Zingerman's Bakehouse. B-Cubed earned its following at the Depot Town Farmers Market before opening its brick-and-mortar home in the Gault Village neighborhood of Ypsilanti in October 2024. The bakery mills its own whole grains on-site using a New American Stone Mill and partners with regional and local grain farmers, bringing the entire supply chain closer to the communities it serves. Whether you stop in for a sourdough loaf, a fresh pastry, or a cup of coffee, every item is made with intention and care.

Ypsilanti has always had a strong, tight-knit community of makers and creatives, and B-Cubed fits right in, nourishing neighbors while investing in Michigan's local grain economy.

AA Novel Concept in downtown Lansing is rewriting what a bookstore can be for Mid-Michigan readers.

Opened by co-owners Christine Bennett and Elise Jajuga, this 2,000 square foot indie bookstore carries a thoughtfully curated selection of new and used books that center underrepresented voices, including works by women, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, Indigenous, and international authors. The store grew from a pop-up idea born on a hike into a permanent downtown anchor that Lansing did not know it was missing. From carefully chosen titles to literary events that bring the community together, A Novel Concept has become more than a bookshop. It is a gathering place for readers, thinkers, and storytellers across the region.
