Road tripping with mom tonight. I am keynoting with ‘Change Your Attitude, Change Your Underwear’ for the Monticello Chamber of Commerce this evening for their Annual Dinner!

Listened to our buddy, Keith Morrison, Dateline NBC (Murder i. apt. 12) all of the way here. Mom’s new car has SO many options. Maybe some classics on the way home!

Hope you have a wonderful evening. Be sure to do something you enjoy!

Today we are going to complete another Sue Johnson bucket list item! We are headed to The Gentle Barn to hug a cow!!!!

Conversation with Ted:

Ted: So where are you going today?

Me: We are taking mom to hug a cow. It is on the other side of St. Louis! It is $20/person and it is going to be so much fun.

Ted: Um, I am pretty sure if you walk down the street and ask Dale Grapperhaus, he would let you hug a cow for free!

Haha. It is going to be a fun day! And we would like to thank Ted in advance for buying lunch! Such a great guy. Please don’t tell him that he is buying lunch. Let’s surprise him!

TROY-EDWARDSVILLE SHRINER’S CLUB HONORS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE WITH MARKETING AWARD

The Troy/Maryville/St. Jacob/Marine Chamber’s 40th Anniversary Celebration on September 21 celebrated more than just their 40th anniversary! The Chamber was also presented with a marketing award at their own event from the Troy-Edwardsville Shrine Club. Many of the Shriner’s came together to show their appreciation for the Chamber’s assistance with marketing the 3rd Annual Shriner’s BBQ Competition. The event took place in August at the Tri-Township Park in Troy.

“We are very appreciative of this Chamber of Commerce. They helped us out tremendously with marketing” said Shriner’s Club Member Gary Apperson. “Dawn was there every day and answered all of our questions. She gives us lots of advice and we are proud to be a member of this Chamber” said Apperson.

The Chamber was awarded the “2024 Grand Champions of Marketing” for their assistance in promoting the BBQ Competition. “What an award” said Mushill. “I have to say that this group of individuals is one of the most dedicated group of men that I have ever met” said Mushill. “Each time I attended the BBQ Competition planning meeting, I always felt so welcomed. These guys truly love what they do and what they represent” said Mushill.

The Chamber recorded the recognition presentation at their 40th anniversary event and posted on social media. “I had no idea we were receiving this award. When they presented this beautiful ‘2024 Grand Champions of Marketing’ award, I teared up. You can actually see me hug all of the Shriner’s and I believe the second person I hugged ended up with many of my tears on their shoulder” said Mushill. “It was a total surprise” said Mushill.

The Shriner’s are already planning their 2025 BBQ Competition, which will take place in August of 2025. If you would like more information on this event, please contact the Troy/Maryville/St. Jacob/Marine Chamber of Commerce at 618-667-8769. They would be more than happy to assist you.

Happy birthday to my niece, Bailey Johnson, who turns 27 today. Time flies so quickly.

Bailey, you know we are so proud of you for all that you have accomplished so far with so many great things to come. Your kindness and compassion show every single day at work and with your family.

You have your grandma’s work ethic (Sue Johnson) - working two jobs and going to school. You just need to pick up four golf leagues and you will be right there with her!!!

Our family is so much better with you in it - today and every single day! Looking forward to a fun family night to celebrate. And guess what! This year we are looking at a normal cake! Hahahahahahaha.

Love you so much! Aunt Dawn

P.S. We have to give your mom a shout out here. She raised an amazing girl! Terri Johnson Bast

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CELEBRATES 40TH ANNIVERSARY IN DOWNTOWN TROY

The Troy/Maryville/St. Jacob/Marine Chamber of Commerce is celebrating their 40th anniversary and would like to invite YOU to the big celebration! “The Chamber is so excited to celebrate 40 years in our four communities” said Dawn Mushill, President/CEO of the Troy/Maryville/St. Jacob/Marine Chamber of Commerce.

On Saturday, September 21, from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., downtown Troy will be hopping with food trucks, Artisan vendors, Big Papa G DJ, a live radio remote, a special Chamber celebration cookie from Silly Grandma’s and a couple of other surprises. There is a little something for everyone.

If you like gaming, the Me 2 You Game Truck will be open from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. There is no charge to game inside the truck. Also, for those who are intrigued by electric vehicles, there will be an Electric Vehicle Car Show from noon until 2:00 p.m. Entries will be accepted until 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 21.

The main celebration will be held on Main Street, between Clay and Market Streets. The street will be blocked off and construction in that area will be completed in time for the event. Plenty of seating will be available under the awning behind the new building at the corner of Main and Market.

We have anticipated the reduced amount of parking in downtown Troy so the Chamber will run a shuttle (location to be announced closer to the event). Shuttled attendees will be dropped off at the event and picked up (shuttle runs from 8:45 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.). Also, for the safety of all, the crosswalks will have volunteers to help people cross the streets.

The highlight of the event will be the downtown passport trail. Each attendee will be given a passport and a map and asked to visit the participating downtown businesses to get their passports stamped. Completed passports will be returned to the Chamber’s tent and drawings will be held at 1:45 p.m. There will be three winners drawn at 1:45 p.m., each receiving $100 in Chamber gift certificates, which can be used at any of the 400 Chamber member businesses. Winners not in attendance will be called to pick up their gift certificates.

“This is going to be a great day in downtown Troy. We hope everyone will find time in their day to stop by, grab some food, check out the electric cars, do some gaming and support our downtown businesses in Troy” said Mushill. This event is made possible utilizing tourism funding from the City of Troy, assistance from Jarvis Township and the coordination by the Chamber.

On behalf of the Troy/Maryville/St. Jacob/Marine Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Ambassadors and Chamber members, thank you for a great 40 years. For more information on the Chamber or the event, visit www.troymaryvillecoc.com or give them a call at 618-667-8769.
