4:50PM DONNER LAKE INCIDENT UPDATE:
We regret to inform our community that the incident at Donner Lake has resulted in tragedy. The remains of an adult male have been recovered this afternoon from beneath the water’s surface at a depth of approximately 140 feet.

Initial reports indicated the deceased was last seen in the water after being pulled on an inner-tube, while not wearing a personal flotation device.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased, who at this time will not be identified pending official notification of next of kin. His remains were turned over to the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office, who serves as the County Coroner.

The Truckee Police Department would like to thank our fellow public safety partners for their quick mutual aid assistance during this tragic incident.

ORIGINAL POST: At 12:10 this afternoon, the Truckee Police Department responded to the West end of Donner Lake for a report of a possible drowning. At this time, multiple public safety entities are on scene attempting to locate a missing adult male last seen in the water.

The public is requested to avoid the area in order to allow first responders to conduct their operations safely and effectively.
