Sorry to hear of his passing - sounds like the Lt. Gov worked hard for those who didn't have many allies fighting for them. Bettering the lives of the elderly is truly sacred work.

With the passing of Roberto Mondragon, New Mexico has lost a true champion for our seniors and a leader who understood that public service meant showing up — literally.

He was part of a generation of New Mexican leaders who believed that change required persistence, passion, and personal engagement. Roberto embodied that spirit throughout his career, and his legacy will continue to benefit seniors across our state for years to come.

My thoughts are with the former lieutenant governor’s family, friends, and the countless New Mexicans whose lives he touched through his advocacy and service.

This would help lessen food insecurity for those who can hunt or fish. Wonder if the discount is enough to create new hunters? It seems like it could be a good start.

The New Mexico Department of Wildlife announced that residents who receive Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits are now eligible for a 25% discount on hunting and fishing licenses. The initiative expands access to outdoor recreation and supports food security for New Mexicans.

“This discount will help make hunting and fishing more accessible to thousands of New Mexicans,” Department director Mike Sloane said. “With this discount, eligible participants will have increased accessibility to healthy, natural food sources."

Between Jan. 1-10 each year, the New Mexico Health Care Authority will provide the Department with a list of current SNAP recipients. This is in accordance with requirements outlined in Senate Bill 5, which was passed by the New Mexico State Legislature during its 2025 session.

Individuals who become eligible for SNAP benefits after Jan. 10 are asked ot contact our Information Center and Special Hunts office for proof of eligibility documentation. Refunds will not be provided for full-price purchases made prior to eligibility verification.

For more information, please contact the New Mexico Department of Wildlife’s Information Center at 888-248-6866.
