Great weekend in San Jose working with variations on our new car rigs!
Timelapse morning in San Jose yesterday.
Were we shooting in NYC just last week? So much activity recently, it’s hard to keep track. Regardless, the new LaGuardia airport remodel is fantastic. Here’s the view from the Delta lounge. Next stop : California!
11/9/22 # 2 - The leaves are not the only colorful thing in Armonk this time of year.
11/9/22 #1 - The leaves are not the only colorful thing in Armonk this time of year.
Throwback Thursday - visions of airports past dance through our heads as we prep gear for another journey.
Great “children’s story time” shoot last week w/ author . Thanks to our friends at Georgia Power!
Great green screen shoot yesterday at Spitfire! We had eight people on the client/agency side attend in-person and another six that we sent the signal to remotely.
Great location shoot in Colorado Springs this past week!
8/12/70 - Happy Birthday, Tripp! You’re still part of everything we do.
One hundred and twenty-six years ago today, the world’s first indoor movie theater opened in New Orleans - Vitascope Hall! Motion pictures were still a novelty in 1896 when a former storehouse at the corner of Canal Street and Exchange Place had the windows blacked out with canvas and was filled with 400 chairs in what is widely recognized as the world's first permanent, for-profit movie theater. It played movies daily from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and admission was 10 cents.
Two decades of “making connections”!

Had a wonderfully “uplifting” time working on this hot air balloon shoot a few weeks back!
It seems Spitfire has been on the road (NYC, NJ, NC, IL, GA) traveling in some form or fashion for the last couple of months. And as a result, we have been remiss in posting about our exploits. In reviewing recent travel photos, this one really made us say “cheese”!
It’s been quite an adventure shooting in and around the New York Stock Exchange this week. With the market having had such an historically bad run recently, we suggest you stop what you’re doing and get a hot dog.
Great couple of days shooting in scenic Western New Jersey earlier this week.
Four days into this most recent location shoot/road trip. Good thing we’re in the boardroom today since it’s raining.
What a week this has been! 5 days, 5 cities, 6 unique locations, and 845 miles driven around GA. Who’s ready for the weekend?
Sparks are still flying from last weeks great shoot with our friends at Georgia Power!
Today is very noteworthy in the history of televised images/moving pictures/media. It was on this date in 1954 (68 years ago) that RCA introduced the first color television set for consumers. It had a 15-inch screen and sold for $1000. If you adjust for inflation today, that’s $10,548.06! Take a moment and be very thankful for your reasonably priced flat screen, phone, tablet or computer.
Sparks were certainly flying as we wrapped our shoot yesterday afternoon!
That’s how you build a set!
Some heavy Kubrick “monolith” vibes on set today.
Friday afternoon chain reaction!
Just in from the Aloha state - Spitfire crew on location in Hawaii. Mahalo!
Up in Philly for a quick interview today. Our subject suggested we go to Thunderbird for a cheesesteak before leaving the area and it did not disappoint!
It's been a long week. It was all we could do today just to "mug" for the camera....
If you're going to take career advice from a snack food, you could do worse.
Special shout out today in honor of any production’s humble, but extremely important, helper - the battery! February 18th is National Battery Day. They’ve been in use since the 19th century (although archaeologists have found evidence of early, crude types used in ancient Egypt). First commercially created when Italian Scientist Alessandro Volta layered silver, separated by paper and dipped in salt or acid and zinc to form the ‘voltaic piles’ in 1800 - these piles generated electric current. This paved a way for evolution in 1802, when William Cruickshank designed a battery for mass production. Corrosion remained a critical impediment until the Daniell cell came along. It was invented by chemist John Daniell and reduced corrosion when storing batteries. Afterward, Columbia, the first commercially available battery, was introduced by the National Carbon company in 1896, birthing the 4D battery created for flashlights two years later. Fast forward 126 years and batteries are a crucial component of about everything we use on a daily basis.
There's been a lot of activity outside of Spitfire HQ today. Good thing we're not shooting, as it was quite loud. But they got these two trees taken down so quickly, it was kinda un-be-leaf-able...
A photo of the elusive Spitfire crew on location earlier this week. As indicated by their shadows, there will be six more weeks of winter production.
The world of cinema lost a giant today in Douglas Trumbull (pictured here with a young Steven Spielberg). His visual effects work on 2001: A Space Odyssey, Close Encounters, Star Trek - The Motion Picture, and Blade Runner (among others) set the gold standard for the industry.
It's been a busy week here. Luckily, I feel like we put in enough pre-production time to be ready for our live "taping". And in 3-2-1..."hold the roll, please"!
An important day in film history - February 1st, 1893: What is generally regarded as America's first film production studio, Thomas Edison's "Black Maria", opens in West Orange, New Jersey. Here's a still image from one of it's earliest productions, "The Edison Kinetoscopic Record of a Sneeze" - a jaunty voyage exploring a mustachioed sneeze. And a special shoutout to supporting actor, handkerchief!
Spitfire Studios is certainly excited about the possibilities offered in this new year! Here's hoping that we all have exciting projects "slated" for 2022!
Really missing that luxurious, tropical location we had a few weeks back....
Shooting high above Los Angeles a couple weeks ago. You know you're way up there when you have to frame out the aircraft warning lights!
Spitfire's casual seaside basecamp at Carmel Beach a couple weeks ago.
In the words of Willie Nelson, it's great to be "on the road again". Looking forward to spending the next 2 weeks shooting in California.
Another great shoot this week with our friends at Georgia Power and this impressive looking future lineman!
