You can plan, write, edit, design, promote, and publish a book without spending a dime and within as little as a month, in most cases. WriterwerxUniversity.com will help you understa

nd the risks of publishing for free (low quality results being chief among them!) and how to mitigate those risks. It can be overwhelming for new writers to have no idea where to begin their journey to authorship. My wish is for WU to be a starting point for writers. Everything that has worked for me and my clients may not work for you, but having a jumping-off point can be a huge help in finding out what DOES work for you.

May's Monthly Chapter Meeting will be held virtually this Saturday, May 9th starting at 11a via Zoom. Our topic is "The Art of Adaptation - How to Turn Your Novel into a Screenplay to Sell" and will be presented by screenwriter and author Michael Lucker

MICHAEL LUCKER began writing songs for girls he had crushes on in the fourth grade. It nearly worked, so he went on to write articles for the school paper, plays for the drama club, and commercials for the cable station. After graduating from Boston University’s College of Communication, fate and a Mercury Capri took him to Los Angeles, where he somehow landed a job as an assistant to Steven Spielberg before embarking on a career writing movies for Disney, DreamWorks, Paramount, Fox, and Universal.

Some newbie writers don't realize copyright registration doesn't prevent piracy and end up shocked when their work is stolen in spite of their documentation of ownership.

Many newbie writers don't understand that copyright registration does not keep people from stealing your work. This is an aspect of authorship I've seen several clients struggle with as they prepare to publish their books. The following is the perspective I provide to help decrease some of the confu...

New writers get swindled out of money every day because they have no clue what the average professional is charging.

Worse yet, they believe that spending more automatically means getting higher quality services. This makes it even easier for predatory entities to finesse extra cash out of them.

Knowing about and reviewing the Editorial Freelancers Association rate chart ( https://the-efa.org/rates ) can help with this.

When you look at the service you are shopping for, be extra cautious with professionals who are drastically outside of the range provided.

For example, if the range for a service is 8 to 12 cents per word, people charging between 6 and 14 cents per word for that service are close enough to move forward with relative confidence.

But if someone is charging 2 cents per word for that same service or 20 cents per word for that same service, it’s time to either walk away completely or be extremely careful in deciding to move forward with that partnership.

The ultra-low prices can be people presenting themselves as providing a service when they are really only going to run your work through some software and then hand it back to you (something you might have been able to do yourself for free).

The frighteningly high prices can be scams as well, with individuals or companies inflating their own skills and / or making grandiose guarantees to convince you that what they are providing is worth the extra expense (or hoping you’ve never seen the rate chart, so you won’t know the difference!).
