Sandy_life_after_60 Beautiful, messy, wondrous. What I’m learning on this side of 60 — come walk with me.

Hands in the garden, loving being a grandma, sharing life’s moments as I figure it all out. 🌿

The wind changed first. I heard it before I saw anything — still blue sky, still sunny, but something in the sound was different.

Then the sky went dark and the rain came sideways. Thunder rolling behind it. You could smell the electricity in the air.

I sat in my favorite spot by the window and watched the power and the beauty of it. Hail bouncing on the roof. The wind whistling as it pushed its way through the trees. And then still again — as quickly as it came, it receded. But not completely. I can still hear the thunder roaring somewhere in the distance.

Twenty years in the desert and these storms still take my breath away every single time.

Sunday mornings have a way of making me slow down and notice what really matters. 🌿

This morning, I looked around at the toys, books, half-finished games, spilled craft supplies and dishes left behind after a weekend with my grandkids.

And instead of focusing on a mess, I saw a blessing.

Proverbs 14:4 says,
“Where there are no oxen, the manger is empty, but from the strength of an ox come abundant harvests.”

There is something beautiful about the evidence of a life fully lived.

The house will be clean again.
The toys will be put away.
The quiet will return.

But for now, I’m grateful for the yesterday… the noise, the laughter, the little fingerprints and the beautiful mess.

Because sometimes the very things that make life messy are the things that make it full.

Thank You, Lord, for the mess. For the people I love. For another morning.

Now… coffee, and then out to the garden. ☕🌿

Grey sky over Tucson this morning, and everything in me wants a sweater and fluffy socks.

The clouds are whispering rain. But the air is still, so it isn't coming yet. And the weatherman says 85 degrees and climbing — so the cozy day I'm imagining isn't the day I'm actually going to get.

I finally got out there and planted the flowers I picked up earlier this week. Today seemed like the right day for it — cooler than it's been, rain in the forecast, a little reprieve ahead to help them settle in.

But I don't actually know that the rain will come. It might be a hundred degrees tomorrow. I plant based on what I can see, and I can only see so far.

That's what I kept thinking about out there. I make my plans the same way — based on what's in front of me, what looks favorable, what I can reasonably guess. And my plans might be good ones. But I don't know what's coming. God does.

"In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps." (Proverbs 16:9)

So I'm waiting on Him this morning. Trusting He sees the whole forecast.

I love walking out into the garden after a rain. In the desert you never know what little surprises you will find!

The garden gifted me
With this sweet snap dragon, in the midst of the desert heat!

God’s gifts are often like that, simple, organic, yet profound. How often we miss them when we walk right by them, forgetting to look.

The storm clouds are coming in, the temperature is dropping, the chimes are singing their warnings and thunder rolls in the distance. You can feel the electricity in the air. It is a beautiful thing!

I always love these stormy days, they seem to ground me. Maybe that comes from growing up in the PNW. The familiarity of a rainy day. A good book and warm tea.

I look forward to taking that time today, slowing down, Bible in lap, sitting next to the window and enjoying the storm.

I spent the day working on Mt Lemmon yesterday. Just an hour commute from my home. The temps where in the low 80’s while Tucson sat at 104+ some.
It was so nice to get away for the day!

Luke 6:12 says Jesus went out to the mountain to pray, and stayed there all night, talking with God.

I think about that sometimes — how He didn’t just pray in the middle of everything. He went away. Up and out, above the noise, the crowds, the demands pulling at Him from every direction.

There’s something getting away that clears the mind. Maybe that’s why the mountain mattered. Not because God couldn’t hear Him in the valley, but because Jesus needed the quiet more than the valley could give.

There are other passages where the mountain was a place to get away and hear God.
Maybe you don't have a mountain top near you, but do you have a place to get away from the noise?
Mt. Lemmon is one of those places for me.

Tonight is my first night back at women's Bible study, and I'm looking forward to it more than I expected.

They take a long break over the summer, and I hadn't realized how much I missed it until it was gone — sitting with other women, praying together, sharing what we're carrying. I only started going again last fall, after years away from anything like it. I'd forgotten what it does for me.

It started back up last week, but I was traveling, so tonight's my first one. They do dinner beforehand, which I've never quite made — I always seem to be running in just barely on time. Maybe this is the year I try.

What I love isn't just the study itself. It's coming back the next week and talking about what we found. The questions someone else asked that I hadn't thought of. The discovery someone shares that shifts how I see the whole passage. There's accountability in it — a reason to stay in the Word during the week — but more than that, there's just something in being known by other women walking the same road.

"And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together." (Hebrews 10:24-25)

I go in tired most weeks. I always come home refreshed.

Is there a group or a gathering that refills you — and if you've drifted from one, is it time to go back? Don't wait, its so easy to put it off. For me as much as I enjoy it, it is always a choice I have to make or I won't go. How do you motivate yourself to keep going on those busy days?🌿

Finding community can be hard, I would love to be a part of your community, grab some coffee and join me!
