I’ve just uploaded a new piece called TREE to my Bandcamp portal.

It’s about the tree outside my studio window, which is a meeting place for the birds in the neighborhood. The small birds gather there to chat and spread gossip, and then the Ravens / Crows barge in and push them out to have their time! After the Corvids leave, the small birds come back and the cycle continues .

PS: The Corvids are WAY noisier than the small birds! Oh, so much to say!!

I’m joined on this piece by a brand new collaborator who actually lives in the same town as me - my collaborators usually live in other parts and we work via long distant file sharing.

Her name is Marijane C. Milton. She has appeared in musicals, concerts, operettas, plays, choral programs (and the occasional piano bar) for decades. She currently resides in the Tucson AZ area with her three cats and her parrot.

Marijane’s voice is the tree that has lived a very long time in the desert, she’s feeling tired and weary, she’s been pummeled by winds, soaked in the monsoons, baked by the sun and has been a gathering place for thousands of small birds and Corvids over years.

I am very happy to welcome MariJane and her voice to my future creations.

Out today:

The Old Man of Storr (Scottish Gaelic: Bodach an Stòrr) is a mountain on the Trotternish peninsula of the Isle of Skye in Scotland. The hill presents a steep rocky eastern face overlooking the Sound of Raasay, contrasting with gentler grassy slopes to the west.

Richard Price is HRÆFN. He conceived of, performed, edited and mastered this piece using his voice and various other instruments. He also created the project’s artwork.

A new six track project out today!

Hello there -

Richard Price was born in the beautiful village of Beddgelert in Snowdonia, Wales. But he grew up in the centre of England, known as the Midlands.

He would visit Wales often as a child and a young man, and has many times felt what the Welsh call Hiraeth, which is a deep longing for the place of his birth.

This collection of pieces called ‘A LOVE SONG FOR SNOWDONIA’ tries to capture his feelings for Eryri (Snowdonia) and Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) which he climbed many times in his youth.

Richard Price is HRÆFN - He conceived of, composed, performed, recorded and edited this project, using percussion, voice and various other instruments including synthesiser. He also created the projects cover art.

Out today from STEER by STARS is a waltz for The Santa Rita mountains.

My nom de plume is STEER by STARS. I live in the Sonoran Desert, south of Tucson. From my studio window, I can look out at the magnificent Santa Rita mountains. I composed and performed this piece on various drums and rattles, chimes, voices and synths.

Hello from Richard -

Out today is 6x1 by my moniker STEER by STARS.

6x1 is six creations which were created in one take each for a contemporary dance company. The soundscapes were performed whilst watching videos of the contemporary dancers improvising in silence.

Everything was played live, without any editing or over dubbing.

Hello from Richard ~

Out today is a brand new creation under my non de plume HRÆFN.

It’s called IN THE COMPANY OF RAVENS.

If you are as fascinated with Ravens as much as I am, please give it a listen. The SONORAN DESERT is a place absolutely full of ravens - they circle above my new house when I’m recording and come and sit on a big rock in my front garden to peer in through the window of my studio.

I’m excited and happy to be working on it

I don’t know how many tracks will be in the finished project or when it will be completed, but I have many ideas 🙂

El Jefe (The Boss) of Santa Rita:

A brand new soundscape creation from my new home and studio.

El Jefe is an adult, male jaguar that was seen in Arizona, USA. He was first recorded in the Whetstone Mountains in November 2011, and was later photographed over several years in the Santa Rita Mountains. From November 2011 to late 2015, El Jefe was the only wild jaguar verified to live in the United States since the death of Arizona Jaguar Macho B in 2009. According to "Notes on the Occurrences of Jaguars in Arizona and New Mexico", an article regarding jaguars in the Southwest US, "Sixty two jaguars have been reportedly killed or captured in the American Southwest since 1900." He was not seen in Arizona after September 2015 and it was presumed that he returned to Mexico, where the nearest breeding population of jaguars is located.
