Cienega High School Senior Receives U.S. Copyright for Original Script
Vail, Arizona — Arizona Film Studios (AFS) proudly announces that Eliza Hatfield, a senior at Cienega High School (CHS), has received her first official copyright from the U.S. Library of Congress for an original script titled “The Adventures of Nevada Brown Script S1E1 and Other Unpublished Works” (Registration No.: TXu 2-502-937). This milestone marks a historic moment, as Eliza may be the first student from the Vail Unified School District to achieve such recognition while still a student.
“We are extremely proud of Eliza’s extraordinary accomplishment. Cienega High School hosts several award-winning Fine Arts programs that are robust and filled with talented young people with solid character and a true desire to refine their craft,” said Kimberly Middleton, principal of Cienega. “Eliza’s dedication to excelling in her crafts is representative of our award-winning culture. My sincerest congratulations to Eliza on this accomplishment! We will be watching to celebrate many more to come.”
Eliza was discovered by AFS on April 11, 2024, when she was just 16, at dance showcase at CHS. Over the past year, she has emerged as a multi-talented force—writing scripts, story arcing, choreographing scenes, designing artwork and merchandise, casting and helping shape the storyline and visual identity of the upcoming television series “The Adventures of Nevada Brown” (NB) which is currently in production in Vail and Tucson. Eliza also stars in the show as Georgia Brown and recently directed her first scene.
In recognition of her extraordinary talent and contributions, AFS voted Eliza in as a full partner on April 11, 2025—an unprecedented honor for a high school student.
“Eliza is not just a rising star—she’s a full constellation,” said Daryl F. Mallett, managing partner of Arizona Film Studios. “Her talent, intelligence and creative vision have enhanced our project and our company. She’s earned every accolade, and we are proud to stand beside her as she builds her legacy.”
One of the core concepts at AFS is to mentor and empower young creators, bridging education, industry and community together through storytelling and the art of film and television production.
“I’ve been insanely interested in every aspect of the show,” Eliza said: “the writing, the producing, the directing, all the scene work, the characters, the back story, all of it. I just really love every part of the show.”
The show “The Adventures of Nevada Brown” was inspired by Mallett’s youngest daughter, Maia Mallett, also now a senior at CHS, when she was eight years old. Most of the cast members are aged 7-25, with the majority of them being in high school.
Other students involved in the production represent Tucson, Marana, Catalina Foothills, Tanque Verde and Mesa School districts, as well as private schools and other schools in Vail (Ocotillo Ridge & Vail Blended Learning), Oro Valley, Sahuarita, Sierra Vista, Buckeye, Benson and Phoenix, but the biggest block of the main and supporting cast members – Eliza Hatfield, Asia’Yana Blair-Adrow, Amariyana Blair, Maia Mallett and Lilli Hamilton O’Hara – are current Cienega Bobcats or alumni.
“All of us at Arizona Film Studios are very proud to be providing a vehicle in our film and television projects in which these talented young creatives can learn, grow and thrive,” Mallett said. “These kids are all so talented, and in multiple areas and activities We are committed to helping build their future, whether it be camera work and costuming, or accounting and contracts, we want them to succeed from the very start of their careers!”
Arizona Film Studios is actively engaged in discussions with Pima Community College to establish a collaborative partnership that connects the college’s Film & Digital Media and Culinary & Hospitality programs with industry professionals. The initiative aims to provide students with hands-on experience alongside working filmmakers and chefs, fostering interdisciplinary learning and career development.
