🏳️‍⚧️KXCI Stonewall Day Programming on Sunday, June 28th 10 am to 3 pm 🏳️‍🌈

Happy Pride Month! On Sunday, June 28th, from 10 am to 3 pm, KXCI will host featured programming to mark the 57th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, which took place on June 28th, 1969, and marked a pivotal moment in the struggle for LGBTQIA+ rights.

KXCI DJs will celebrate the accomplishments and aspirations of the movement with great music from LGBTQIA+ artists, allies, and voices from Tucson community members. Tune in to KXCI as we commemorate this key turning point in LGBTQIA+ history.

About MicTV:
MicTV molds the jazz milieu into an intricately crafted exploration of the cross-section between improvised & written material. They call this sound “Alt-Fusion” or “Free Pop”. People of all ages and backgrounds have been seen nodding their heads to the rhythms, tapping their toes to the grooves, whistling the tunes, moaning in rhapsody, leaving the floor completely healed spiritually, emotionally AND financially. Others have been heard saying, ‘I’m trying man, I just don’t get it,’ and things like ‘isn’t he kind of a jerk?’ If you hire them they’ll simultaneously elevate and sink your event. If you request a song the lead singer is likely to mock/chide you then play the main riff half-ironically. A band perfect for any occasion (that pays)!

The KXCI Education team recently wrapped up the first session of our Summer Youth Broadcasting Camps. To celebrate their work, Youth Broadcasters will take to the airwaves for a live freeform radio showcase on Sunday, June 21st from 2 pm to 6 pm. Their shows will also be recorded and featured during the Future of Radio broadcast on Sundays at 5 pm.

💿 Today’s New Music Feature comes from Amsterdam based, Indonesian synth-folk-pop collective, Naga Kirana, who just released 2 songs ahead of their forthcoming full-length release.

The Dutch and Indonesian collective draw musical inspiration from Indonesian folk music, adding in electronic and synthesizer elements and danceable beats.

Enjoy this clip from their song “Lumba2,” which translates to “Dolphins” in Indonesian. The band describes this song as a playful groove that glides atop gamelan melodies and a hypnotizing rhythm. Beneath its bubbling surface lies a meditation on appearances and emotional ambiguity with lyrics that serve as a reminder on how joy can conceal hidden depths.

KXCI Featured Programming on Juneteenth this Friday, June 19th, 7 am to 6 pm

KXCI will celebrate Juneteenth on Friday, June 19th, with a day of featured programming. Join us for a day of reflection and jubilee with messages from community members and special selections from KXCI DJs Minister Jo, CJ, Tyina, Mookie, and Traci. The music and programming on KXCI will honor this Black freedom holiday as we look at the past and continuing work of the Civil Rights Movement.

General Tchefary, born Ibrahim Toure, is an international African roots reggae singer, songwriter, and performer from Côte d'Ivoire, now based in Tucson, Arizona. A direct decendant of the legendary Samory Touré, his music carries messages of struggle, hope and conciousness, blending African melodies with reggae rhythms.
