Saguaro Scramblers Agility Club

Saguaro Scramblers Agility Club A fun agility community offering AKC, NADAC & USDAA dog agility trial here in Tucson Arizona. The Saguaro Scramblers Agility Club, Inc.

was founded in 1994 to promote the sport of dog agility in southern Arizona. As the only club in Tucson dedicated fully to dog agility, we sponsor trials throughout the agility season. We sponsor seminars by nationally renowned agility trainers/competitors, organized practice sessions and fun matches. The club sponsors six trials each year in the Tucson metropolitan area. It is the only club in Ar

izona to sponsor trials sanctioned by all three major agility organizations, 2 by the American Kennel Club (AKC), 2 by the North American Dog Agility Council (NADAC), and 2 by the United States Dog Agility Association (USDAA). In addition, the club sponsors 6 NADAC mini-trials throughout the year.

Hot news from the AKC February Board of Directors meeting recently:

Agility – Transferring of Points and QQs from MACH to PACH
The Board VOTED to change the Regulations for Agility Trials and Agility Course Test (ACT ) to
allow for the transfer of accumulated points and double Qs (QQ) from the Master Agility
Championship title (MACH) title track to the Preferred Agility Championship title (PACH) title track.
Once entered in the preferred master-level classes, the owner may, at their discretion, transfer one
time QQs and points earned towards the MACH title to those needed to earn a PACH title. Only
points and QQs that have not been applied to an awarded MACH title may be transferred. These
changes will become effective on July 2, 2025.
Chapter 8 (new paragraph)
MACH To PACH Transfer of points and Double Qualify (2Qs) Points and Double Qs earned by a
dog at the regular Master level that have not been applied to an awarded MACH title may upon
request be transferred in whole to the dog’s Preferred Master level for the purpose of earning a
PACH. This is a one-time transfer per dog.

Agility – Regulation Clarification for the Tire Jump
The Regulations for Agility Trials and Agility Course Test (ACT), Chapter 3, Section 3, 11. Tire
25 FINAL
FEBRUARY 6-7, 2025
Jump describes the method for attaching the connecting straps to secure the tire to the frame with
the provided strap or elastic band. Staff feel there is a safety concern as the strap does not break
away should a dog become lodged between the tire and the tire frame, potentially causing injury.
The Board VOTED to change the definition of a connecting strap to include the wording that the
connecting strap must be displaceable. These changes will be effective on July 1, 2025.
Regulations for Agility Trials and Agility Course Test (ACT), Chapter 3, Section 3, 11. Tire Jump
11. Tire Jump.
(New wording underlined below – all other parts of this section 11 remain the same.)
After confirming that the tire meets the required 16-20 lbs. requirement, secure the tire to the frame
with the provided strap or elastic band that is displaceable from the tire frame when force is applied.

Agility – International Sweepstakes Class (ISC) Updates
The Board VOTED to approve updates to Regulations for Agility Trials and Agility Course Test
(ACT), Chapter 14 to keep the International Sweepstakes Class (ISC) Regulations consistent with
changes in international Agility.
The only new Regulation is to allow bi***es in season to compete at ISC-only trials at the option
of the host club. This will be done on a one-year trial basis.
Section 2. Eligibility of Dogs. This class is open to dogs that are eligible to compete in AKC Agility
Trials. Dogs may be entered in any of the offered class levels and in multiple levels at the trial.
For ISC ONLY trial Bi***es in season (BIS) may be entered at the club’s discretion. If the club
decides to allow BIS to complete that information and any restrictions placed by the club must be
noted in the Premium. (This will be done as a 1-year trial period and then evaluated)
(See updates in Appendix A.)
These changes are effective May 1, 2025.

The premium and online entry for Saguaro Scramblers' Feb. NADAC trial is up and running on our website: www.scramblers.org
This Feb trial is NOT during the gem show. We lost our regular Feb date this year and the trial is now Feb. 21-25, 2025. There shouldn't be any issues with parking.

We have the same beautiful field with the lush grass. Our trials are generally smaller with two rings alternating so there shouldn't be any conflicts. NADAC is a great place to run baby dogs. We have a relaxing atmosphere and a great time. Please let me know if you have any questions. Anyone new to NADAC who have questions about the premium, I can help you with that also.

Thanks
Sheryl

Dog agility has lost one of its founders. Folks newer to our sport might not have even heard of Bud Houston. But, we've all been influenced by him, at least indirectly. Bud wasn't everyone's cup of tea; he was direct, and he had strong opinions. I think a couple of his seminars were the first dog agility seminars I ever attended - way back in the '90s. He was a founder of Clean Run magazine and many, many folks learned about handling, training, and competing from its articles.

He also enjoyed the challenge of training and working dogs at a distance and inventing/playing dog agility strategy games. In that era winning the strategy games (Snooker, Gamblers, etc.) really brought out a level of competition we don't really see in today's competitions.

For me Bud's "Laws of a Dog in Motion" were probably the first "handling system" ever codified and have been absorbed and extended by trainers across the generations and the world. They still apply today and are something I'll always remember when I think of him.

Rest in peace Bud and my condolences to his friends and family.

Hi Scramblers and Friends!

Just a reminder that our Dec USDAA trial closes soon! It's set to close this Wed, Dec 18, but Lori kindly agreed to keep taking entries through Sat Dec 21. Get your entries in the mail soon OR if you don't wanna deal with the post office (since mail can be slow in Dec), we also have a handy online entry form you can use instead!

It's looking like a very small trial right now, so please enter and tell your friends! We really appreciate those who come to support our club, even if just for a few runs or one day!

The trial is Dec 27-29, includes all titling classes, Grand Prix, Steeplechase, Biathlon, and DAM Team. All Team classes are on Friday making it easy for you to come for one day if that's what you prefer! Trial will be one judge, two rings, with rings alternating. Judge is Barbara Standiford.

Trial is at Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, outside on their nice, green winter grass. Kino has dry RV parking right next to the field.

This trial will have our annual Meaghan and Dormarth awards for Standard: These awards are given for the 1st place dog in Standard for Masters and P3. The award is given to the highest scoring dog both rounds of Standard added together, scored as time plus faults (furthest under their SCT for their height wins). (Note: The Dormarth award is only open to "Career" Performance dogs, who haven't titled in the Championship program.) Winner will get a plaque and a gift certificate.

We will also have special prizes for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams for the overall in Team on Friday! We have custom made batons as an extra prize for the first place team as well!

The trial will also have a volunteer raffle where you can win dog toys or treats for helping out at the trial! Volunteers will also be paid in scrip.

This is expected to be a small trial, so if you're someone who prefers smaller, more laid-back trials (or is new to USDAA), this is a good one to come to!

Thanks so much to everyone who helped with our USDAA trial!! The winners of our annual Judy Guillot Memorial Award for Gamblers was Kokopelli and Wanda Day. Koko had the most points in Adv/P2/Starters/P1 Gamblers with the best time to earn the award! CONGRATS!!

Hi All--Lori kindly offered to take late entries for our Saguaro Scramblers USDAA trial in Tucson next week. This is an extra small trial and we need a few more entries to cover the basic expenses of the trial. So, if you were debating if you wanted to come or forgot to enter you still can! Please tell your friends to come as well!

Online entry will stay up through Wed Oct 16. You can still mail in as well, but make sure it's in the mail today or Monday so it arrives in time!

This is an evening trial! We knew based on last Oct that it would end up very hot, so we planned accordingly so no one has to be out running in the heat! Tucson is nice and cool at night! Kino has bright stadium lights to light the field.

The trial is Oct 18-19. The trial is a shorter trial, Friday and Saturday evening only, with a planned start between 4:00 and 5:00pm depending on number of entries (if small enough, we will start later when it's cooler). Trial will end about 10pm each night. Don't worry, it won't end up as a trial that goes super late, Kino says "lights out" at 11:00pm so we plan to end runs about 10pm for time to be able to set the courses for the next day.

Trial includes titling classes for all levels as well as Steeplechase and Grand Prix. Trial will be one judge, two rings, with rings alternating. Judge is Bill Pinder.

Trial is at Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, outside on their nice, green grass. Kino has dry RV parking right next to the field.

This trial will have our annual Judy Guillot Memorial Award for Gamblers: This award is given to the dog with the most points in their gamblers run at the Adv/P2/Starters/P1 level. The winner will get a trophy and a gift certificate for a future trial. So, if your dog is at this level, be sure to enter Gamblers for a chance to win! (This award is not open to Masters because we have a different award at our Dec trial that is Masters/P3 only).

The trial will also have a Halloween themed volunteer raffle where you can win a Halloween bucket of toys and treats for helping out at the trial! Volunteers will also be paid in scrip.

This is expected to be a small trial, so if you're someone who prefers smaller, more laid-back trials (or is new to USDAA), this is a good one to come to!
